    Default weekends work

Well the last few weekends to be honest.
I'm not that good in wood work. But I gave it a go, I got fed up of sitting on the floor playing, So I made use of some furniture board we had left over from some shelves under the stairs.
Using tips and ideas from here.
there is a hopper above the machine which feeds the top ball hopper. The pipe is the right length to enable the door to open but not have balls overflowing the hopper.
There is a 2 1/2" gap between the frame and cabinet. To slot a flat piece of metal to block the flow of balls, preventing the hopper from draining out into the cabinet when the door is open.

At the momment the used balls drain into a pot on a shelf below the cabinet. The idea is a ball lifter will be put there. When I've built it!!!

I will give a prize of 3 banana smiles to the first person who can name the young lady who stands on high overlooking the player.

    Electrical.
I intend to make a put an illuminated sign above the machine in front of the hopper. But at the momment, its just a thin piece of wood.

I've been playing with a motor from a set of automatic sliding doors. Changed the toothed belt pulley for a sprocket to drive the balls. If the motor can move 200KG of door. It should be able to move balls up a length of tube.

The speed of the motor and force is fine, But at the momment Every so often a ball jambs as its entering the drive sprocket. I've tried altering the pitch of the ramp, and clearance between the sprocket and channel. But no luck yet. I may have to recess the sprocket into a block of wood so as to give it constant clearance the whole way round.
    Any ideas welcome.
    Something for next weekend .

ya might consider cuting a notch into the pipe so the sprocket is kinda sorta in the pipe insted of in front of the pipe

with the kind of power that thing appers to ahve ill bet ya could lift balls from the basement to the roof

Your wood working skill look A ok to me.. nice Cabinet

I need to go right now but just saw your post and want to reply.. The balls lifter I have (orange one) have a band of metal like a spring just under the wheel.. so if a tooth of the wheel push a ball down, the spring at the end of the ram compensate and is pushed down, allowing the ball continue to roll and not get stuck between the base of the ram and the tooth.

It's hard to explain but if need I can post a pic, maybe someone have a pic ready for you too..

really nice work! especially the sprocket.

on ball jam, how about lining the chute with a slightly flexible layer, like mousepad, to allow a bit of "give"?

the orange one has delrin gear, so a bit of flex there.

I did try to get a delrin gear, But I couldn't get one with the correct shaft diameter and key way for the motor. Unless custom made at £80.

I do like the spring loaded section in the bottom of the channel. I never thought of that. Its something to try, While still on the test rig, Before I get round to making a feed hopper and with sensors. Also fitting the motor into the curve section of pipe via a cutout. Its standard 1/2 copper plumbing pipe.

I cut a 1 1/2" section out of the base of the channel and inserted a piece of 1 mm thick sprung steel. It seems to do the trick apart from some times the balls spring back out leaping into the air. I'll be putting a cover over the last 2 " of channel to stop this. Time to move from the test rig and fit to the steel box with transformer, timer repay and optical sensor.

    Quick update.
Although the hopper hasn't been made. I put a long channel to the motor.
In 5.2 seconds it pumped 51 balls out of the top of the tube.
Thats about 550-600 balls a minute.
Might be abit quick. Thinking about halving the motor speed.

    Any thoughts anyone?
