Default Is it time for another PachiCon??

(Note to Mods: I couldn't determine what forum this thread should be posted to, so if this is incorrect, please move as needed. Thx!)

It has been over a year since MudFud pulled a group of our members together in Las Vegas for a mini Pachinko Convention, and there has been very little discussion regarding a follow-up meet that I have seen.

I thought I would post this thread to see 1) if there was enough interest in arranging another PachiCon where PT members could meet, and 2) solicit ideas and suggestions for a date and location (or mulitple dates and locations).

If you are interested in participating and/or helping to organize such an event, please reply to this post with your ideas an suggestions. Maybe we can pull something together before the end of summer.

I could possibly make it this time, considering I am no longer encumbered by a wife. :-(

I could possibly host.. if there was any interest in people coming to Houston. I'm about 15 minutes from IAH airport, 30 minutes from downtown, 5 minutes from Splash Town water park, 1 hour from the gulf coast/Galveston. My home is big enough for a gathering with game room(s) and plenty of room to set up other games and such. (A hold'm tournament could also be had.)

Anyway... just offering .. .although a Vegas thing seems like fun to. I think there are several folks close by and possibly a Vendor who might want to bring some of their wares to peddle.

Sounds fun! I don't have suggestions, but if timing and location fit, I'd be interested in attending.

Would it make sense to plan two PachiCons? One for the east and one for the west?

A user map sounds like a great idea. Another (pinball) forum I visit has a google map set up for members to pin point there location. I'd volunteer to set one up if that's OK Mr Moderator?

There are several mods made for Vbulletin with the google map hack
however all of these have been made for previous versions of the VBULLETIN.

we are currently using 3.8.5 and are scheduled to swap over to 4.0 as soon as a few mods are updated..

PT 4.0 is up and has been tested by a number of mods etc. and just waiting for the critical software modifications to be put online..
so until we swap over there wont be any mods added.

here is a sneak peak at PT 4.0

We had one in the past, can't remember exactly why it was ended.

I'd say if it does happen, your best to show at most your zip code area or the town, not your exact location.

it was stopped because unfortunately a lot of mods stop being supported.
so with the upgrading of VBulletin software the mods become obsolete since they basically get abandonned by their programmers.

such was the case with P3tz the map mod and countless others that have come and gone.

my goal for PT 4.0 is to make everything forum based so as to not rely on mods as much as possible.

    its a juggling act however..

Vegas would work for me as well, plus there is a lot to see and do. I could also bring some of my more unusual machines for others to see and play. Perhaps other members could do the same. (no pressure Chewy, but I would like to see the Sparrow sometime )

I also really liked Rusty's idea of inviting a vendor or two come and peddle their wares, so maybe we could see if there are any vendors that would be interested. I think it would be beneficial for both sides to build those relationships.

Logistically, it seems like there are quite a few PT members on the western side of the country that could get there without too much expense. Would it make sense to also plan a PachiCon on the eastern side of the U.S. for the members over there, or would eastern members be willing to travel to Las Vegas? (Just thinking out loud)

Please post your thoughts, comments and ideas. Maybe we can get enough traction to actually pull it off!

Vegas is do-able for me, with enough lead time.

I'm really happy to see this thread! To be honest I have actually been thinking of hosting a get together for those of us on the East coast for a little whille. I would be more than happy to set up the warehouse like a makeshift parlor. It would be worth doing if I could get at least 10 people willing to go and if you all are willing to pay like around a $25 cover charge we could probably do catering, soft drinks, and if enough people would show even hire one or two people to do ball handling. First we would have to get our current shipment of machines here safely (which hopefully will be around August 15th, but we've been put in a difficult situation by one of our now former buying agents and we are trying hard not to have a significant delay). So if you are interested let me know by post or contact me by PM!

I would do vegas again. thing is, trying to get machines there to play. ttc drove 4 machines there from calif. last time.

if people want to do SF bay area, where there are other fun things to do for family, then I have machines here in berkeley, hope chest is 10 minutes north and has a cool studio w pachinkos, and johnnynormal's 10 minutes south. mopar's NE about 2 hrs.

2 hours south is my salinas gameroom (and sparrow) and ttc's collection in monterey.

I have floor space or there are cheap motels in both areas (some of us are "cheap")

Yeah, good point about getting machines there.

We've taken over both sides of the duplex we live in so I'm setting up even more pachis, and not only that - someone can crash in one side of the duplex for free (well, maybe for a bottle of whiskey or summat!). And if there are any musicians we can jam in the pachi parlor/band studio. We've a good backyard for BBQs as well.

Regardless of where we choose to meet, I will be driving there in the minivan with several of my "unique" pachi's and one of my Allwins (I may even bring the Super Sea Story and see if any of you can get it into a fever!! ).

The Bay area would be quite a drive for me from Denver, but could be done if I could find someone to share the driving with [Microbus99?]. Vegas might be easier for most, and offers a lot of things to see like the pinball museum and other attractions, and I'm sure most could find cheap flights on gambler junketts.

However it sounds like you all are suggesting a "rolling" Bay Area PachiCon from game room to game room which would be really cool.

For me, the most appealing part of a PachiCon is meeting as many fellow PT members as I can who share the same addiction, passion and insanity for these off-the-wall machines. To me, the location isn't nearly as important as getting as many PT members as possible together for a few days of fun. If we can get more of us together in the Bay Area, then I am happy to meet there.
