Unhappy 24VAC supply needed for Pachislo in UK

I have a Bellco Pachislo machine which I have bought on ebay as a broken machine. It has a 24VAC lead marked at the back of the machine. In the UK we have 240VAC. The online manuals not 5Amps required and I cannot find a transformer for connecting this in the UK.

Has anyone else had success in the UK in getting a new transformer to work without it coming with the machine as standard ?

    rs componants do a 24vac transformer 10amp

RS | Transformers | Transformers | Chassis Mounting Transformers | Laminated Frame 230Vac Primary 75VA to 200VA (Multi Tapped) |10-5840
    not cheap,
Someone told me once to try a company called cnc as they sell to the general public, but their website isn't good for looking for componants

    Big Hello

My mistake, its cpc, not cnc. Also not cheap

    XP POWER|JPS10PS24|PSU, 24V/130W | CPC

Or try to keep an eye on ebay, something might come up.

If still needed we have the 24V/220V in stock for the Bellco machines.

You can send me a message or pm me

    With friendly regards

Thanks for the pointer to RS Components. That is one supplier I did not come across on searchs in the UK !

The downside to the tranformer you listed is that is not powerful enough.
The documentation for the Bellco unit is that it needs 144VA (ie 144 watts)
    At 24VAC, (and using Power=Volts x Amps) 144VA=24V x Amps
    Amps=6A.
Most of the transformers available do not support 6A or they do not support AC. 24DC would blow the Pachislo.

However, RS do a 2x 24VAC with 3.2A output (part number 504-082). By connecting the outputs in parallel, voltage stays the same and power is doubled to 6.4A. (Do not connect in series as voltage will double and power will stay the same).

This is now on order and I will update this post with the results once I get it connected up.

If you're connecting the two outputs in parallel, then make sure you're absolutely certain that they are connected the right way round (ie in phase) before you plug the transformer in.

There was one occasion when I needed to do this, and I wasn't paying full attention and got the windings connected out of phase (to be fair on myself the transformer wasn't very well labelled either). It didn't smell too good, and I managed to pop the transformers thermal fuse before I realised what I'd done.

Now when I'm specifying transformers with split secondary windings, I'll always select based on connecting them in series (ie 2x12v for 24v output).

If I have to connect in parallel, I'll just connect one pair of terminals, and then apply power and measure for AC voltage between the other two terminals just to be sure. If I get no reading, then I know I can safely connect them together, and I've got the windings connected in phase. If I read double the winding voltage, then I go back and start again.

If all goes well, I'll be looking for a 24vac myself soon

Let us know how you get on.

Did you have any luck with a transformer?
I'll be needing one in 6-8 weeks
