    Default NY Times article Rant!

Why am I NOT surprised that the article was just like many of the other articles that we have read by writers of other publications that visit Japan?

Why did the article start off with a negative tone?

    Noisy, TACKY?

Why was the gambling aspect brought up so often and almost pushed that something just might not be on the up and up?

Why was the piece more of a questioning of the legal aspects of the machines?

Why was the legal aspect even brought up?

I will probably be hearing from a NYC gaming commissioner soon or a politician that wants to make a name for him/herself now that they have to grapple with the issue that they didnt know they had "Yet" to grapple with?

Why were the machines described as cheap and disposable by a slot machine "Purist" What the hell is that? Did they mean American Slot machine player?
As far as I can tell Pachislos ARE slot machines!

Why was I questioned for hours on how the machines worked and the History of them and why they are appealing to collect? Only to have the interesting and educational info dropped?

Why did I give detailed info as to why I have the particular machines that I have? Such as they were first of a unique function or extremely rare? And not that I simply want to play with slot machines as a wannabe Casino operator?

Why were my explanations of the technology used and the price that Parlors paid for the machines be brushed aside by a "Purist" Which already labeled the machines as cheap and not for the "Serious person" What the hell is a Serious Slot player? I guess he had an agenda as selling vintage American slots is his business.

Why were the Japanese Parlors described as "Seedy" I have never been to one this is true but from what I can tell from Youtube they seem to be very clean and highly modern places akin to the modern American Casinos where both Men and Women can play in a safe and secure welcoming environment or are American Casinos and Racinos seedy as well?

What did I get from this piece ?

I got that Kitsch happy collectors like Oddball slot machines that verge on being illegal to own if not already illegal to own. They are a group of whackos that fill their houses to non livable capacities with the machines and that this article is a window to this sideshow. So laugh at them and there obsession with their cheap and maybe illegal toys!

In other words I got the same sarcastic, commercial, derogatory, writing style that publishers seem to hold so dear when it comes to entertainment machines of any type.

What did I expect the article to be?

An informed piece of the wonders and high technology that is used in an electronic game machine that had its roots in Parlors of Japan and that have crossed the ocean to be collected by those that are fascinated with their remarkable and entertaining features. Collectors from all across America and the Western World that share info on these complex devices just as collectors of fine automobiles or just about any item that collectors are interested in do.

I thought it was to be an educational piece that introduced these machines to those that never knew such things existed as well as share some of the excitement and or mechanical aspects that drew people to collect them.

    I guess Im the idiot!

In comparison to this so called article on Pachislo machines I wrote a piece that is coming out in the July issue of Gameroom magazine on the Retro Arcade Museum. I recorded my interview with the owner and wrote down word for incorrect ( From a writers grammar point of view) word. So that the
piece is accurate and not given to any artistic license from me.I will post the article for you to see the difference in how a subject should be covered when I am legally allowed to do so.

This piece was nothing more than a Mockery of Pachislo machines and those that collect them. Pure tabloid elitist fluff
    ______________________________________________________
I forgot to thank both Chris and Rita for trying to instill some interesting reading in the piece. Too bad Chris had to defend the Pachislo machine from a "Purists" description.

WOW! What a HACK JOB! I could have wrote a better article without any interviews! And I'm not a writer! I am very confident that Eddie gave a great interview...but the ONLY quote from him was, “I don’t really even like having people in here.” WHAT A SHAM! Definitely a reported with a agenda. There was a mention and pic of Rita from Blue Hotaru. There was a mention of An Obama Inauguration pachislo comes decorated with an image of the president, arms folded, in front of the presidential seal and an American flag. The link was not of said machine, that was disappointing...not that I want one.

It's never a good idea...is it? I wonder if there is a you tube video? Looks like it has a large LCD screen. Maybe it has videos of Michelle lecturing us about fat children while eating ice cream!

That's a good question and I also don't understand what people have against pachislos. In my opinion, I think they are MORE fun than a typical, American slot machine. At least with a pachi, you have to do something besids pull a lever and sit there like a zombie, watching and waiting for the reels to stop. Don't get me wrong... I like to play slots at a casino at tmes, but they're just too boring to have in the home.

Just the other week on KLOV, someone was asking about slot machines and you wouldn't believe the lack of love for pachis! Most of the replies were to get an American slot machine and avoid a pachi because they are cheap, built terribly and break down easily. Really? I've had my one pachislo for about 12-13 years now and never had a problem. I did chime in about pachis because, once again, in my opinion, they are more fun than a typical slot machine.

I don't get it but I guess it's all a choice of personal preference. I just don't like it when someone bashes a pachi and never has owned one and is only going by what he/she has heard/read but spouts it like it's a well-known fact. Oh, well. Their loss in knowing how much more fun a pachi is over a standard slot!

I do have to admit...pachis are more fun to play than American slots. However, I do have a love for completely mechanical slots. American or other. I just love the complexity of how all the parts work together. Just like how I love vintage pachinko over modern pachinko. Although I have only played my one modern, I wish I had access to some variety of high end moderns to sample. Just so I can have a more informed opinion, unlike the writer of that rant who is not going to be swayed by information or facts. I don't like the modern American slots at all. All the electronics and random number generator. To what avail...for 3 reels to stop on their own. At least pachis talk and sing to you! The truly antique American slots are works of art! Mechanical on the inside, and artistic on the outside.
