    Default Siomahal (Pioneer) features

When I was at Zcore's yesterday, I picked up an inexpensive machine for a co-worker of mine. She likes purple, so I got her a Siomahal by Pioneer.
This is a 2003 Okinawa (-30) model in Pioneer's Sio series, and it is a fairly basic machine with an India theme.

It has fairly basic play with pretty good sound including an elephant roar on replays that causes you to step back the 1st few times you hear it :-)

I played it for quite a while before it finally gave up a Bonus. When it did, it let out a rooster crow, and I was treated to a visual treat as the paylines in the glass lit up in oscillating colors. Very Cool!

Another neat thing about this machine is the separate board that has the volume control on it.

The volume is controlled by a simple circuit with these resistors in series with the speaker. For those of us with intermediate or better soldering skills, it;s a simple matter to pull the "stock" resistors and replace them with higher values that bring the volume down to household levels without the machine looking hacked up.

As others have mentioned, the 30mm tokens are very cool to play with. After playing with them for a while, regular tokens feel like baby tokens :-)

I had another "medal" lying around from my last visit to the real casino that was about the same dimensions as the 30mm tokens. Much to my surprise, it worked perfectly in the machine with no mods or adjustment needed.

I've been quite surprised by the level of features and entertainment in this bargain machine.

Hey, that looks like a pretty nice basic machine. Thanks for the writeup and review. The pics came out well.

What I like about it is that it is a basic machine with animal sounds. Kids would like to play that.

Well then, if you like animal sounds, finish your sound modification and we can make a Florida Gators machine with the sounds of a gator thrashing someone around in the water right before he's eaten!
    Meanwhile, somewhere in Oklahoma.

I am sure they would have nice dreams after that,--- NOT!!

I mean little kids, not gore loving teenagers! They have XBox and N64 for that 8-)

A while back one of the members here posted that he takes some of his machines out to the retirement homes and the folks there really look forward to his visits. That is a very nice gesture. I was thinking of modding some machines to be more kid friendly to cheer up kids in bad situations. Or anyone for that matter. The problem I see though, is that everyone immediately associates these machines with gambling. so I am not sure it would fly. Still, I like the idea of using them to bring joy to some folks that are in dire need of some good times for a change.
