Default $25 Nishijin Super DX from CL - What'd I just buy?

Just picked this up for $25 locally. Don't have time to test anything since I'm studying for an important test and took too much time to pick it up in the first place! In the process of moving so I can't even unpack balls to test it. I shot up the single ball it came with and was surprised at how... smooth? the launcher felt.

Going to have fun fixing it up.

Just have one ball to test it with so I have no idea what works and what doesn't. Does the machine need to be hooked up to a battery/transformer to pay out balls? I'm guessing that's what the two loose wires are for.

When a ball gets into one of the pockets, it gets stuck in the thing to the left of the big NISHIJIN logo. If I fiddle with that, it will pop out the bottom.

In a week or two I'll have moved and have plenty of time/balls to work on this with! Bigger pic: http://imgur.com/p4FgF.jpg

it works on gravity. the wiring is only for lights. I needs a few hundred balls in the back hopper for payouts to work, if it is empty it will just hang up the ball in the back

your also milling the ball track cover.. you can make ont out of a piect of wood or metal... and be aware that the ball dump is triped.. so when you drop your balls in the upper hopper there going to spill all over the ground.. just slide the lever to the right and it will lock into place..

nice looking Model "B" machine ya have there.. and a great price as well

as for the lights.. like posted by Owennewton there not nessasary but will add to the game play

just hook your choice of a wall wart of a 9 volt battery to the orange and white posts (top right)

When you get ready to make the lights work.. here's my view on your machine.

First, get some fine emory cloth from your local hardware store. Use this to 'shine up' the contact points on the leaf switches (your machine has two of them). This will insure that the small voltage (9v) will be able to 'get through'.

The top 'hopper empty' switch appears to have the activation level positioned in the wrong spot. When the hopper is empty, the absence of balls allows the ramp part to rise and the activation lever to drop. That dropping motion pushes the top leaf down to make contact with the lower leaf and thus turning on the light. In your photo, the activation lever is under the leafs in the 'hopper empty' position. It also appears that it might have been bent in the past so you may have to 'rebend' it to a position that works best. Trial and error here.

I'm a bit confused by the two wires hanging down on the right had side.. this maybe where someone tired to wire in the battery in the past. You should be able to tie your input voltage to the connectors on the top right. There are three... one for input positive (+), one for input negative (-) and one for the hopper empty signal for the operator control board. You only need + and -.

When yours is set up right... you should have lights in the center and the side on a jackpot. Should look pretty cool.

Good luck and hope this helps!

BTW: Get more balls.. about 800 to 1,000 to insure the game plays correctly and increased play time before you have to refill the upper hopper.

Nice find, looks to be in pretty good cosmetic condition. Read up on the playfield notes on cleaning to keep from water staining your paper behind the playfield plastic. The back looks in good condition, what I see immediately is a spring to the viewers left, which may have been the spring for the launch mechanism or some other retractable lever. Its damaged and wrapped in a c shape, that is not normal.

    Good luck!

Thumbs up Re: $25 Nishijin Super DX from CL - What'd I just buy?

I think that spring to the left is to the door latch that it is attached to (not correctly)

Alright, I finally have time to take a look at this thing. I've fixed up what I can without taking the damn thing apart and the thing seems to pay out fine. The only problem I'm having is with the lower right pocket. Balls go in and get stuck. After a few balls go in, the pocket is just sort of clogged up.

I don't suppose this is a common issue I can fix without taking apart the back? I look a look at it and even taking pictures every step of the way it seems unfathomable to put it back together.

Its really not that bad to take it apart. Just study it for a couple of hours by putting balls into pockets with the front open and watch what they do from the back. Something (bugs, leaves, dirt) probably got down into that pocket and is jamming up the ball travel.

Do you have a compressor, canned air? Maybe you could blow down in there and break loose whatever it is.

Is there a way to open the front without a key? My other pachinko key appears to be about half a century too new for this.

when you look at your machine from the back ,there is a lever on the right side .pull up on it , and the front glass should open .
