Default Arangeball Lights

there has ben some Private Messages flying around about lights for Arrangeball / Arepachi Machines..

here are a few of the guesses i have so far..

there are two different bulbs in question first was recomended to me and has work without fail untill recently..

Browsing Store - 2187 Miniature Lamp: 28V @ 0.04A, T-1 3/4 Wire Lead Base

when these 28 volt bulbs were installed in another machine they are really dim barely lit..

after check the voltage of the two different machines i found my older Arangeball has 28 to 29 volts output when light should be lit.. nice and brite

with one of the Good LT's machine the bulb is verry verry dim.. checking the voltage of this machine the output is only 9 to 10 volt..

my thoughts and question to more experienced members is.. would this 14 volt light work correctly with approx 9 volt output??

Browsing Store - 2162 Miniature Lamp: 14.0V @ 0.1A, T-1 3/4 Wire Lead Terminals

They will be yellowish. I would go to something like 12 volts max if you have 10 volts as power. If you plan to use 9 volts for power source, you should try to find 9 volts or 10 volts lamps. Maybe 12 volts ones but it's a bit high for a great flashy pachinko, especially if the lamp have a colored screen/plastic in front of it. You want something bright.

10 volts lamp powered with 9 volts will last more longer than 9 volts lamp powered with 9 volts.

For the lamp I would recommend to not go higher than 20% over your power source, otherwise your lamp will be yellow/dim..

Of course don't go with a lamp bulb rated lower than your power source, the lamp will fry in no time.

Hope this help.

you need these ones to put in a socket?

There's 12v here, like the one in your pic, not sure if it's the exact model to fit in your sockets if any.

You may be ok with the 14v. It's way much closer to 9v than the 24/28 you used before heheheheh.

Hey Mopar,
I just mentioned to your dad that my Satomi has the same dim light issue as his same Satomi. I bought the 2162 lights which are 14 volt and put a few in. Same thing-they work and are usable but still not bright enough. The search continues.

I just found some 12V mini lamps from alliedelec.com.
They are the same form factor but the bulb itself may be slightly different in size. For example the 2162 bulbs are smaller than the 2187 ones.
Anyway the bulbs I am talking about are 7219's and cost 3.70 or so for a ten pack. I ordered some and they should be in next week.

I got the 7219's in and they are about 1/2 the size of the normal size mini lamps. I couldn't put them in the machine in question since the circuit boards are in Maryland getting fixed and don't want to power it up without those. So I put one in my Taiyo Mars and it was very bright. Around 3 times as bright as the other lights in it. In fact, the regular lights work fine but when a 7219 is in there it actually turns the yellowed background around the number that the light shines through completely white. It looks great. Now unfortunately these lights get very hot. But here are some things to consider. One is that these lights are only on for brief periods during gameplay (if one wanted to use these lights in another arepachi where normal lights work ok.) so they may not heat up too much but it would suck to warp and melt the number matrix-so I wouldn't walk away with the machine on with balls in pockets. Another thing to consider is that these bulbs may work just fine in the two Satomi "Hippies" in question since they (I am deducing) are putting out less juice to the lights in the first place and shouldn't get so hot.

just call me confused

got 2 more bulbs in...

first bulb is the #1869.. was really optimistic about this bulb

1869 14 volt bulb.jpg

1869 14 volt bulb (1).jpg

as ya can see even the 10 volt bulb is really to dim

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

we also ordered bulb # 2181 it is a 6 volt... realy way to bright and hot

tems of the factory bulbs are around 100 degrees.. i got reading of 130 plus from this little guy..

2181 9 volt .jpg

2181 9 volt (1).jpg

eddie has offered up a bulb # 2182 it is a 14 volt bulb... so that will be the next one

more to come
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

how many Arrange ball owners does it take to find a light bulb

Hmmm confusing. I was in radio shack the other day and noticed they had a large selection of cooling fans in various sizes and voltages for cheap. Would be a good idea to have cool
airflow over the components anyway but may help if the only decent bulbs we can find run warm. Also would the amperage if these various bulbs have an effect on brightness?

a fan is probably a good idea.. but the bulbs are burried so deep in each hole i doubt a fan would help much..

im hoping that someone can help me understand.. its really frustratin to read that some bulbs have volts and amps.. other bulbs have volts and watts...

good point about the bulbs being concealed somewhat. i think if a fan were used it would have blow air right onto the bulbs.
It seems that with these Satomi's or this model at least that the higher the voltage the dimmer the bulb, so i wonder how those 14 volt ones will do...

Hey Mopar. Its a pretty straightforward calculation, simple math:

Watts (Power) = Voltage x Amperage (P=VI)

If you know any two, you can figure out the third with either multiplication or division.

Using some examples from early in the thread:

A 28 V lamp with a 0.04 Amp consumption is 1.12 Watts when you run it on a 28V source. A 14 V lamp with a 0.1 Amp consumption is 1.4 Watts when you run it on a 14 V source. Drop the voltage source to 10 V and the Wattages become 0.4 Watts and 1 Watt respectively, so if you want your lights to light up brightly, try to match the recommended voltage as close as possible.

Your PN 1869 is a 10V bulb at 0.014 amps, so that would be 0.14 Watts when connected to a 10V source, not very bright as you've already discovered. Of course as Tilton has already stated, you can't just increase the voltage arbitrarily because you will affect the life of the bulb, possibly down to an extremely short (microseconds) time...accompanied by the smell of fried component.

Hope that helps some.
