    Default I've got a Rotamint

    Won this on Ebay today.

Rotamint Vintage Antique German Nickel Slot Machine - eBay (item 290426659681 end time Apr-25-10 18:36:56 PDT)

Hopefully I can get it working. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Repair manuals in English, etc.

    Thanks!

wow. that should be quite the project. is there a user group for those that could help you? I am afraid that there's probably too much AC wired stuff in that for me.

congrats! looks like a good price, too.

I struggled with my 1947 electromechanical slot machine project for a long time before realizing it's just to Goldbergesque for me to wrap my head around. Luckily, I know a pinball guy that is like a savant with EM stuff. It can get expensive though and, technically, these things aren't worth that much.

We'll see. I hope it's something fairly simple. If not, it will move down my priority list-- that's become a long line though (I cheated and brought my Allwin to the front).

Mine is all in pieces while I refinish the cabinet. I'm trying to stay true to the original, so it's a real challenge. I haven't seen any real good restorations on these yet.

It's a real rare one: Bally Deluxe Draw Bell. It's remarkably complex for the time and was the first to offer features like the ability to hold reels. First year in this series and even more rare as it's a quarter machine (I'm guessing that's about 3 bucks now), whereas almost all produced where nickels and a handful of dime machines.

Here's a link to another guy who has one, improperly restored, but still nice:
    Bally Deluxe Draw Bell Console

Hey, I think an old post of mine where I'm showing a field of carpet with a pachinko nail hiding in it may have the machine in view...

Here's a shot of the machine among the mess:
Best nail puller yet... and a problem...

Restoring that paint job is the real challenge (hell, the whole thing is a challenge). Need to get just the right amount of underspray with the templates, get the colors right, etc...

Not to be confused with a washing machine, which is what my wife thought it was when I was sneaking its glorious 300 pounds down the back stairwell at about 1:00 am. She's grown to love it since, which is a pleasant turn of events.

A few decades ago this kind of machines were fairly popular in Holland and i also had a few, but the problem with this machines is the rotating drum where all the contacts are placed.

They have to be properly set to make the machine work fine, and in my opinion you need a schematic diagram to set these contacts in the right way, because without the diagram you will not know when a contact has to be opened or closed on a certain moment.

Anyhow good luck with the restoration and i hope you get it fully working again, because it is a very nice machine you have.

Can anyone post any info on their respective Rotamints? Reliable, troublefree, hassle to restore/repair, etc.? I've admired these machines for awhile and Dattia pointed one out to me over half a year ago that I shoulda picked up. Anyway, I've found a very cool one and before I pull the trigger on it, I'd like to know a little more.
    Thanks in advance!!

I finally got my other electromechanical monster (the Bally Deluxe Draw Bell) up and running reliably, so I pulled out the Rotamint (bought a 110 to 220 transformer) and started playing with it.

    Um, yikes?

I don't think I'm up for repairing it. It fires up, the wheels spin periodically, but it's nowhere near functioning correctly. I think I'll sell it, sad to say.
