Default Importing a Pachinko to Australia

Does anyone know the rules for importing a modern LCD version Pachinko machine into Australia? I've got someone interested in purchasing one but he's concerned that it may be considered a gambling device and confiscated by customs since he doesn't have a gambling device importation permit.

Interesting question, and relevant as an importer/reseller in Aus got "busted" recently. Against them was the fact they did have some Pokie related gear (Pokies are very strongly controlled gambling machines in Australia).

The Pachislo/Pachinko gear is classed as amusement devices. Heck, that is their status in Japan (everyone there will happily assume no-one will gamble with them )

You can even get a cover letter from the manufacturer of your pachinko machine stating it is an amusement only device if you think it necessary to clear customs.

    Cheers

I haven't imported a machine myself, but I know it can be done. Your best bet is to contact these guys and use their first-hand knowledge of our market. But you should not have any trouble. Here's his last email to me from last year:

"..This has been confirmed with Australian Customs. They explain that 'Gaming Machines are not in their list of prohibited imports'. It is up to the buyer to be comfortable with the rules relating to possessing gaming machines which I understand vary from state to state. I have sold many machines into Australia and none of my customers have had any difficulty however."

There is always another machine around the corner...

do you have the proper transformer installed for use in Australia??

you may also have bare wires or a bad connection somewhere causing it to blow fuses.

Take out the dongle, replace the fuse, and try it again

If the fuse survives, get a new dongle
