help with upper hopper on Robocop machine

Hi. I just purchased a used orange Robocop machine.
When I got it the upper hopper was full of bearings. I used the ball release to let them out but now I am not sure how to make them stay in again.
The square black box on the back that seems to control it lets them out, a few at a time, until it is empty. This happens regardless of whether or not you are actually playing. Once empty it continues to make a buzzing/humming noise at regular intervals.
Is there some switch I need to flip to correct this or could their be a piece that needs replacing?
Any help on how to get it running smoothly and correctly would be greatly appreciated.

when u say lets them out a few at a time... does this mean lets them dump out the bottom back or lets them pay out like a wining payout to the front??

If the ball release is closed, it lets the bearings out into the front part of the machine like a payout. If the ball release is open the bearings drop out the bottom of the machine in the back.

If it's releasing them to the front, it's catching up on stocked payouts. You either keep filling up the back until it stops, or do a hard reset.

As Compirate said, it's catching up on payouts from games played when there were no balls in the hopper. The solution is to keep dumping the balls back in the hopper until it stops.

I don't think you can do a hard reset as there's no 'Reset' or 'Memory Clear' switch on the Monako 'Nightwave' frame that Robocop uses (at least there's no mention of one in the frame manual, and my Robocop is at the bottom of a stack of 12 machines so I can't check for myself !).

Yes, that did it
I had to load balls in the hopper for a good 20 minutes but it finally stopped spitting them back out. Of course it went alot faster when I figured out I could block the upper return and get all of them to fall into the bottom tray.
