I have a 5amp transformer in my machine now seems to get hot. Should I go with a larger transformer?

5 amp should be fine, they normally run warm to hot, just make sure you turn it on and off with a power strip.

I unplug mine from the wall is that Okay, or should I get a strip?

unplugging from wall is ok, power strip is easier
