    Default Nishijin 7 & 14

Hello All. I've recently purchased my 1st Pachinko machine, a Nishijin 7 & 14. I'm very excited about it, although it seems to have a couple flaws. It was suggested I join this site and seek some answers.

I guess first off, does anyone have access to a repair manual for this unit? If not, here is what I think the issue is (and I have no experience with Pachinko, have only fooled around with it and gathered basic knowledge from the "what does it do if I try this" mentality): The machine does not pay out, and when I first plugged it it, it made a grinding noise. I have found that noise to be caused by the 2 black gears in the lower left as you are looking at the back of the machine. By dis-assembling that piece, the gears would turn without the noise. I've played around with it enough that the grinding only happens for about 5 seconds when the unit is powered on and when no payout balls are used. The balls shoot fine, the electronic display functions fine, but no pay out when there are balls, and a grinding noise as it tries to pay out. I believe the payout is associated with the gears which grind and do not move if I press the level above the payout channel (where you load the balls at the back top). I'm wondering if the motor is shot and not able to turn the gears or if there is a different issue. Any suggestions?

As a note, the previous owner did not pack the unit all that well for shipping. When unpacking, balls were falling out all over the place and oddly it seems that a couple are in spots they should not be in. I'm not sure any of those balls could have caused the issue or if the previous owner just didn't play it. My wife wanted me to send it back but I was too excited to finally have a pachinko machine and stubborn enough to decide to fix it myself. It does need a serious cleaning too.

I will post some picks tonight. All of my google searches have indicated that it is vintage although it does not fit the profiles of Nishijin A, B, and Cs.

it sounds like an early modern to me,

does it not have a name or theme depicted on the cell front?? I suspect the 7 and 14 refer to the ball payouts??

But no worries, as soon as the pics are posted, we will know for sure

Welcome to PachiTalk! You have found the right group of people to address your questions!!

I had a similar problem with a machine that, from your description, sounds mechanically similar. Here is the thread that has a lot of good suggestions and information that may be helpful:

    http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/mode...ding-part.html

I hope you are successful getting your machine working. That is half the fun of this obscure hobby.

Thanks for the responses. Hopefully attached are pictures. I will check out that other thread as well as that machine looks very similar to mine regarding the LCD, the payout spots, etc.

I would check the power transformer to make sure the motor is getting enough power to turn the gears. As the Nippon guy in my thread advised, low power will cause the motor to vibrate/hum and not turn the gears.

    Good luck!

have not had the privilage of seeing such and early Mordern machine in person before..

if it were me i would start by trying to get into that section of the pachinko and see if something is jamed between the gears... u might be suprized what u find in there...

hope its something easy to fix..

seems like early last year another member had a similar problem with a similar machine... his gears were striped out from being jamed

gool luck to ya ... i like thouse early machines

I have taken that gear box off, and when I do the gears move just fine. However, if I apply a little pressure to the gears, they won't turn (grinding sound). I can manually push the levers those gears control and they work when I do that. I'll check the power next. I hope it is not the motor as the link to the other post did not have good things to say about that.

Sorry i can't be more help. The last time i worked on a modern vintage like yours was back in 2003. All i can say is take plenty of pictures with as much light to get a sharp picture . Some of the members here have manage to fabricate new parts or repair vintage parts .

    It's Alive!! Alive!!

It was really starting to bother me. I could on rare occasion get the gears to turn properly so I was pretty sure it wasn't the motor. I recently picked up a Nishijin Sophia B and was looking at the two of them at the same time and I noticed that the piece in yellow was down on the modern and up on the B. I guess during shipping the balls the seller left in had made that piece go in the down position and when I removed the gears I did not realize it should have been in the up position when putting the gear box back on. I am told the look of utter amazement at the first time my first pachinko paid out correctly was well worth it. Hoody-hoo!

Your's is a MODERN machine (classic modern in this case)

    pachimono moderns

I'm getting a translation of that name for you - its seems to be a particular slang turn of phrase, and cannot be done by Google.

I would let the seller know what you went through and try to use better common sense when packing and shipping. Bag(double bag if you must!) the balls and stuff that box!!

Who knew a small chrome ball would be so much fun !

Someone finally hit the jackpot. Any ideas what this says? When the jackpot gets hit, the lights flash and you can't really do anything else. Is there a reset switch? In Japan, how much does the jackpot pay off and is this done by the attendants?

    Welcome aboard

    Cute looking machine.
    The screen is saying
    Error.
    Please call attendant.

wouldn't have thought it would need restting after jackpot. You may have run out of balls or the bottom hopper is full. The machine will stop if it detects the bottom is full to prevent jams.

Does anyone know any error codes/diagnostic for these?
