    Default First Cabinet Design

    Hi All,

Before I go into the build, I just wanted to thank all of you for your photos, plans, suggestions, and help in this forum - I spent a few days reading through and deciding what I wanted to do but this community was an immense help in getting there.

So, the build. I wanted a full upright cabinet, but needed to keep the space used to a minimum, I knew with the weight I would need to be careful not to go too narrow, but also decided a cleat would ensure the stand stayed in place.

As you can see in the pics (and I will provide detailed plans - promise) The game sits at about chair/stool height and the overhang will eventually hold a small lightsource (probably an Ikea halogen system).
The total cost for wood was $40 and should be a few more once I get the lower front cover in place. I have all my machines running fully cyclic so there was no need for a built in return or feed hopper. I routed the edges and need to spend some serious time sanding, filling, priming and painting - but I was really happy to see what a few hours work could produce!

    Arigatou Mina-san!

Nice looking cabinet! Are you trying to hide that car in your drive way? If so you may need to some more snow on it.

Agreed, the riser above the area for the pachinko was added to either take a counter or a backlit sign - I was not sure I could get my hands on an authentic counter and what the dimensions for the different styles are so for the time being it will just remain blank.

Added the first round of wood filler today to help blend the seams and did two 5/16th dowels (about 1.5" long) on each side of the shelf the machine sits on. I am trying to avoid screws as even with pre-drilling I was afraid of splitting the wood - with a dowel and wood glue + the brad nails used to do most of the initial assembly the frame seems very rigid. Another nice thing about dowels is if you leave 1/8th sticking out you can cut it flush and get a nice clean look - very little filler if any is needed as the wood glue does a good job.

Thanks for the kind words - I will post more pics and the plans as I make progress - Off to get some good plywood for the lower panel!

I had been kicking that around last night while I was sanding it. I thought about matching the frame color at first, but figured that could get a bit psychedelic after a while

I decide to look at either a black or charcoal color as it will let the game really stand out, hide small dings and scuffs better than white, and look a little more uniform when several are sitting next to each other.

The sanding is going well and I should have an update soon with a final paint job this weekend if the warm weather holds up.

Nice project! I like the Marquee area and down light also?
I like having some extra light over the PF. If you need a marquee printed on some shine thru plastic I can help with that.(after I get Don his project that is!) I have made a few.

How about some more photo's of your progress?

Thanks Everyone, just a quick update... went to Lowe's last night and picked up some lighting that should work pretty well. The 3rd round of sanding is done and I am going to try and do a coat of primer today followed by some color. I ended up going with the dark grey in a semi-gloss, looks nice on the test strip, fingers crossed.

The lighting can be found here.
