    Default reaperman is new!

    Yep I finally signed up.

I picked up my first pachinko machine (a vintage Dai-ichi) at a thrift shop I guess about 6-7 years ago, but because of space, noise and other apartment life problems, I didn't get it going until I moved last may. (and didn't really get it *properly* going until today).

Also today, after quite a lot of looking around, and literally years of putting it off, I modernized myself by ordering a Tomb Raider pachinko. It's pretty much everything my vintage machine isn't. I think this means I'm properly hooked now.

Now I guess I need to snag about a thousand more balls, and start working on a better storage system than my current 'corner' tv stand.

In addition to my newest expensive habit, I've been hooked on video games for quite a while, and the centerpiece of that collection is a Neo Geo arcade cabinet.

Anyway, I'm sure it's a pretty common model, but here's a shot of my Dai-ichi. Seems to be missing something a little something toward the top of the center bit.

Sorry for the offsite pic. here's a pair of attached ones.

As for the center of the playfield, it just looks like something should either be rocking on that yellow post, or sliding out the door. the ramp is wrong for balls to enter the doorway, so I imagine it serves some other purpose.

The Centerpiece is complete . The pachinko ball , when it goes thru the upper feature the pachinko ball travels down thru the pagoda and spins the multi-color turtles . The cool thing about the centerpiece is that as the turtles turn they will open holes for the pachinko ball to travel to the payout mechanism
When things don't go right the 1st time , Step back ,Take a break and come back renewed. RGS

That makes a lot of sense. In that case it's my upper 'bell' that may not have been in the original plan, as there's no way to enter in behind it. Though it does drop the ball straight down which accomplishes the exact same thing play-wise. It just leaves me with a silly hole to wonder about.

Someday if I get brave, I may replace or modify that bell, but for now I think I'll just enjoy it as is. There's no shortage of much less destructive things it needs first, like a general cleaning.

I got an email today stating that the folks who sold me the tomb raider read my mind and installed my volume controls for me. I'm pretty glad I don't have to mess with that. I also ordered another 1000 balls, making 1400 shiny new ones (I'm not using 'vintage' balls in my new machine), but from what I've seen of modern fever modes, I'm still short a bunch. I suppose I'm going to need to improvise a ball tray extension or buy cabinet when the wife's not looking. having recently left apartment life, I'm without the equipment required to build my own, and now isn't a wise time to ask for more new toys.

as if I weren't in too far in over my head already, that ArePachi video on the front was about the neatest thing I've seen.
