Default Jacks Open pinball.. is it worth...

There's a Jacks Open pinball for sale at a consignment shop here. They want $395 for it. The play field shows considerable wear but still looks ok, the back glass looks ok and the cabinet seems in fair condition. Obviously not a restored machine.

They say the only thing wrong with it is the solinoid for the ball ejector is not working. My question is... is this worth the price? I see the rubber kits on ebay for about $15 bucks. If I get an affirmative on the price being valid I will go back and have them prove the rest of it works and/or negotiate price.

I've wanted a pinball for a while now but am not just going to jump in with asking some experts... which means you guys and gals!

Is it the Gottlieb version of Jacks Open (1977)? I do recall playing this pin, and that it was fun. But, it was quite a long time ago so I can't really provide a personal review that is entirely free from the fog of old memory (I think that it was in some smoky bar, along with more than a pint or two).

However, the reviews seem to be favorable on the Internet Pinball Database website (The Internet Pinball Machine Database). Note that there are two similarly-named machines listed, a "Jacks Open" from Maresa, and a "Jacks to Open" by Mylstar. The Gottlieb version seems to be the nicest.

I think that for the price it would definitely be worth a trip to take a closer look!

    It's the Gottlieb version.

I didn't have my camera with me at the time I saw it. Over all it's in good 'used' condition. The play field shows some wear. Condition wise... I think it's cool. I'm just wondering if their asking price is high / low for this machine. I will try to get a photo early next week as I am out of town spending this weekend with my kids.

i think that would be a great price for an em wedgehead ,if everything else works on it.if the ball return solenoid is bad,you could manually activate the kicker through the front door opening, bringing the ball to the shooter ,and play it that way to make sure the rest of it works.

The machine is in the 2009 price guide for $ 700.00. In the 2010 guide it shows $ 725.00. It is a 1984 Gottlieb EM 4 player. 2,350 were made.

    Buy it

I used to play Jack in the box (very close to jacks open) back in the 70's at the local slotcar track.

    Fun pin, very addictive
