Default Best nail puller yet... and a problem...

My 3rd and best nail puller. Simple. Took about 10 minutes to build and pulled 45.9 nails in a minute.

I was talking to our cat and it suddenly occurred to me-- a little swinging crowbar claw and a little leverage. It was so obvious that I'm not sure why the naughty little kitty didn't relay the idea sooner.

Below are self-explanatory pics. The 1X2 arm has a few holes for ease of positioning anywhere on the board (although the one setting has worked everywhere so far). Padding on the end where it rests against the wood frame. Little tiny crowbar made from a sacrificed, small bent screwdriver. That's about it. Notice in the one closeup that it pulls 2 nails at once when they're close together. A tad longer and it could do 3 at the same time.

With a little practice, I bet I can get up to 60 nails in a minute. One little problem though. In my frenzy to impress myself in the speed trial (only did 1 trial of 1 minute-- hardly scientific, but fun), I didn't get the claw all the way onto a nail and it went flying. I saw where it went, but I simply cannot find it. The last picture will illustrate the fun of working over the perfect carpet for losing pachi nails-- shades of copper and bronze shag. Great idea.

It's somewhere in the area shown. Let me know if you spot it.

Short of that, if anyone knows where I can get a replacement nail, or can provide me with one, I'd be eternally grateful!

What you need is a Metal Detector or a stick with a magnet on it

If you have a wet / dry Vac, empty Da thing and give the room a once over. It'll go into the chamber of the Vac and not a bag.

I'll be borrowing my daughters metal detector when I get home from work tonight. I'm tired of covering every square inch on my hands and knees, wiggling my fingers through every fiber. I am finding all sorts of other scary things though.

Magnet on brass? Now you're just teasing me!

Try the technique that works on shop floors. Turn off the room light then place a flashlight on the floor and slowly rotate it 360 around the room until you see the shine of the nail.

Thanks a lot, Mopar! I really appreciate it.
I'll look between now and the completion of this "restoration" (which at the present rate is scheduled for roughly 6 months from never, give or take). It also occurs to me that I could steal one from the rear or, better yet, another machine. Then I can buy another one, steal the nails from it to give back to the prior donar, and repeat ad nauseum.
