    the tulips are easy to pull out. just gently lift at the corners where the nails are. they are short nails on these things.

    looking down on the tulip brass claws, they might need to be bent in or out to clear the ball. this was a problem on my old marudai.

    alternately, there could be something stuck in the tulip on the inside, holding the brass lever down.

    it should be pretty obvious when you get it open.
