I've only heard great things about the Kreg system and have been thinking of getting one myself for a while. Will probably use some Christmas $ to get it.

I've seen Norm Abrams use something very similar to this on the New Yankee Workshop. Looks like something I will need to add to my Pachi workshop!

    Thanks for sharing!

Most of the professionally made cabinetry uses Kreg styled pocket screws, it is fast, strong and eliminates using cleats so it is easy to hide.
I use and recommend them. Now where is my endorsment $$?

I have the Home Depot version of the Kreg but I have yet to use it. Its made by General Tools. Definitely not as fancy as the Kreg but looks doable.

Found it in the tool department after coming across the Kreg on the Rockler Hardwoods site and of course had to find a cheaper alternative.

Yes I have the basic starter system of the Kreg. Works great! It can get a little costly to add pieces to it though.

Nice! I could have used one yesterday.

Another thing I find extremely handy is a dowel jig kit.

The Kreg is a great tool, and I've found no substitute (at least one that doesn't lead to inaccurate alignment and tear-out).

I can't use it on my Attack of the 50ft Woman project though, as the jatoba wood is just to dense. So I've resorted to dovetails and mortise and tenon joints. All good fun though.

good find and would save about $10 from the similar Kreg kit.
We used a shop made jig for pocket holes before Kreg came out. I am not sure about the general tools pocket hole guide you found but the newer Kreg is better than the older Kreg for ease of use in changing material thickness. I mostly use 3/4" stock but also use 1/2" on occasion, and changing from 3/4 to 1/2 requires the depth stop on the drill bit moved and the distance from the edge increases with thicker stock. the new kits look like they made it much easier to change the setup than in the past. I ended up getting two jigs and setting one at 3/4 the other for 1/2" In production work I didi not want to stop to change
a setup. But I also have 3 shapers because I don't like to change things once it is setup

I have found the same thing with the having to change between thicknesses. I have a spare bit with collar but still have to mess around. The price of extra tools needs to be questioned sometimes but so does the aggravation in stopping what your doing to do other things. Same thing with having more than one table saw!
