Default A strange and unusual Vintage machine

A good friend of mine was on vacation in Hong Kong and saw this machine which she assumed was a Pachinko. She snapped a quick picture and gave it to me. It looks like the design is somewhat based on a vintage pachi, but a pachi it is not.

Does anyone know what this is?

Interesting, I assume you get 4 in a row and you win. It looks like the pins that form the 'cups' retract into the board to reset the game. There's a horizontal version of this in Japan, I think it's called Smart Ball, a little larger and not a 'in a row' game. Not sure how you keep playing if you win real big . The balls are payed out across the top of the glass, then go into a hopper on the near right side to be shot back into the playfield.

Saw something similar to it when I was in China several years ago. The one I saw was a vending machine where you shot the ball up and what hole it went in determined what treat the machine dispensed.

It was my pre-Pachi days, so I do not have a photo. Wish I'd thought to do so.

Never saw one again when I went back a couple of years later and was Pachi-enlightened.
I used to eat lots of natural foods until I found out most people die of natural causes.

Very cool looking - I'd go $1058 for it...
Do you know how many directions 500 steel balls can go on a tile floor...

sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I wanted to show off 2 American-made vertical pin games that were posted in a pinside thread about Free Play Florida

    vertical pinball 1.jpgvertical pinball 2.jpg
    WANTED: 10¥ games, pre-1950s machines, スマートボール (Smart Ball), payazzo/kronespill, Pickwick-style (~1905)
if you have any of these in North America, let's talk.
