I'll see what I might have at the warehouse this week. Maybe I can find a machine or two that we've robbed for parts and can send it to you.

    From the soundboard.

I am afraid I have made this thread really long. Sorry about that. It might be best if I make a web page for my notes and everyone can just go there?

I am not sure what would be best. I have to make the thread too long, but I also feel like there will be a lot more information and questions coming over the next several days to weeks.

Up to you guys, I am fine either way.

I will post the major events on this thread then, and keep a "notes" on a web page. I actually have been doing other stuff today, and have not had time to get back to the project. It is a fun project, at least I think it is. I bought a book on pic programming yesterday, and it looks like I will be able to use that with my other projects as well.

Thanks everyone for listening and offering to help. I keep looking at my Egyptian one (Olympia Gold God), and thinking "Hmmm.. I really want to be able to play different videos!). For some reason I have it stuck in my head those are sprites, but that seems pretty old technology, so I am not sure where I picked that up. Oh, heck with it, I am going to take a divergence from the sound and look at the video real quick and see what it is!

SO if you do find a way to program new soudn into it, what price woudl we have to pay to get eqiuptment to do this? If its anywhere near the price you had to pay, then i dont think ill be delving into it at any point soon, but keep up the good work!

A good device programming machine is expensive. I could have purchased many new pachislos for that one piece of equipment alone. Mine was $800 bucks, and it took me a while to get that price. There are many device programmers out there, but trying to find good information and reputable machines was a major pain. I suppose if I was an electrical engineer instead of a applications programmer I would have already had all the needed equipment and know how.

Just reading the sound contents in is the easy part. The hard part is separating the sections and recoding the sound. Some sound tracks are synthesized (just pure instructions to the specific sound processor), and others are voices so to speak (no pun intended there) and use audio compression algorithms. Doing this part, to me at least, is the hardest part. I feel somewhat fortunate in the fact that I program for a living and am considered in my industry as a "white hat" hacker (that means I do not destroy other folks information, I only find the exploitations, and help them better their software).

I took a break from it for the most part on Sunday, but I will be doing more and more with it. TR and ZCore13 have provided me with some very good information that kinda tells me even with same vendors, models use different setups! Another challenge, but I feel confident that I will get it. Once I have one done, currently the Kung Fu 2, I will have my algorithm down and will know what to do with the others. This is just exploratory for me on the Kung Fu 2. I am treating it as my "test" machine. So far I have no fried anything on it
    8-)

Anyway. I know everyone would love to just be able to click a few buttons or hook up an easy mic to the machine and have the sound change capability. From what I have learned so far, it is not going to happen like that

More information and results to come later.

I forgot to post this Saturday morning. Here is a messed up sound byte, playing at the wrong speeds and everything.

I thought it was funny, so I kept it for a item to put in my project notes.

Thanks for the update and all the work you are doing.

Do you know if the synthesized music is in any type of normal format like MIDI or another format that we can convert a MIDI file to?

Now that sound bite really came from Pink Floyd's 1969 Ummagumma album!

I do not see the standard midi header of mthd anywhere in the data, so I would think it is not midi.

for the two that I am testing with, I have contacted the synthesizer's vendor for better documentation.

Well, this AM I woke up kinda groggy and decided to see what the ougonshin data looked like. Not a smart idea. So now, I need to change the topic of this thread to "How to zap your pachislo boards!". :-x :-x

Milt came to my rescue (he was checking email on a Sunday morning!!) and said he had the part I zapped. I am going to leave that machine alone as it is the best one I have.

I am relieved he had the part, I was so mad and disgusted with what I had done to my machine.

Note to self: Unbox the SpinLuck you were going to ship to Delphi and put it back on it's stand.

Well, it did change the sound, but not in a desirable way. :smt076

Stupid mistake on my part. Never do this kinda of stuff unless you are fully alert.

WOW, a bunch more than I thought there would be. Now you know the names, and I am assuming that some of these are duplicate sounds within a different section of the program. Can we record a new sound with this name and replace it?

    Tulsa.
The real problem is the sound format itself. On my Kung Fu Lady II, I found some vox/adpcm formats. The other parts are synthesizer instructions. On the Don Don King, I cant find anything at all, and I just started looking into the Gold God. The names of the methods and variables I found in Gold God and Kung Fu Lady II are just the names.

It seems to me that the main cpu dynamically loads these codes portions. These codes segments have instructions to read memory addresses located on the other chips, and passes those contents to the onboard sound chip. The voices go via one pin set, the synth goes to other pin sets.

At least, that is my theory. If someone wants to help me out in any way or offer me some advice, I am all ears. So far the Kung Fu Lady II looks to be the most promising to alter the sounds on.

I really need some old parts to do more analysis and testing on. :smt022 :smt022 :smt022
