    Default Sound Modifications - Update

I have been working very hard on this, and have some promising results thus far. So, hopefully very soon I will be able to complete the project. I will keep those interested posted on the results.

That is awesome! I am really looking forward to hearing the results. If you can pull this off, this will be a mile stones in moding a pachislo.

Especially for customizers! Match sounds to the theme.

Does this mean we can easily import the music as well?

Great...I am very interested in this...first the audio, then next the video (LED/LCD). For a TRULY custom experience..........

I've been thinking about this alot, but haven't had anytime to work on it. Any ideas you come up with (or barriers that you hit), feel free to share along the way. I'm a mechanical engineer that works in R&D in the semiconductor industry, and am fairly computer literate. Sometimes two heads are better than one.

Progress is still moving forward. I spent $800 bucks today on some test equipment that will definitely help 8-) My testing thus far has been limited to Diado, Yamasa, and Olympia models. The Yamasa and Diado I feel pretty certain I am about to break through. The Olympia, well that is a little different story. So, of course I want to do what appears the easiest first, so my proof of concept works.

So, as soon as I get it, I will write up a webpage and post the link here. I would post all the results here, but I am afraid it is going to be pretty lengthy! I have learned alot in the past few weeks as I ventured into this new territory for me.

It has been great so far, and I am having a blast/love/hate relationship with it. I hope to share my fun with you all as soon as I can. I appreciate those that have helped me so far with my machines, even though the questions were not even related to this project.

800 bucks is a lot to me also. But, I really don't have a hobby that costs any money, so this one time purchase for it is not that bad. I can imagine some folks spend about that much on golf clubs or other things.

I just got back home, and it has arrived, so I am off to perform some dissecting!

Here is something interesting. In the sound module instruction base set, I see a bunch of resources like this:

    KungFu2$Id: SMain.asm,v 1.60 2001/10/03 02:49:45 oono Exp $KungFu2$Id: PIC2STEP.inc,v 1.5 2001/08/08 0727 oono Exp $KungFu2$Id: TCOLORID.def,v 1.19 2001/10/01 10:29:50 ootsuki Exp $KungFu2$Id: Mblid.def,v 1.7 2001/09/18 08:53:25 ootsuki Exp $KungFu2$Id: Cueid.def,v 1.4 2001/09/12 02:42:54 oono Exp

This is on myKungFu2 machine. I just thought it was cool to seem the name of the asm file, the date and time and stuff like that.

Anyway, on to the more important stuff...

OK. another update. On the Kung Fu 2 machine, I can play the sound file images on my laptop, kinda. I am just trying to adjust the properties correctly for playback. It has a bad echo, and seems to be the wrong speed.

Trial and error. Researching the format, and adjusting the playback properties. I am hearing some Japanese voices that I have never heard while playing the game. I thought that was interesting, guess it is an easter egg. More than likely I just have not hit that sequence on the machine yet.

It is getting late, and I need to find some more information on this format anyway. So far the only document I have is Japanese, so it is rather difficult.

    Getting there!

I'm almost afraid to touch anything on these machines and you're hacking into them. Impressive!

want to get some help translating the document you refer to? I might be able to help...no guarantees. If so, you can email it to me at tnbg777@cableaz.com, and I'll see what I can do.

    Hi TR.
That would be great! I just sent you an email.

I wish I had some more machines to test with! I see there is an automatic belco on sale for like 99 bucks. I don't have any belcos, so I may order it to take it apart and examine the chip sets and file layouts.
