Smile value of your silver coins

here's a chart that gives the actual melt value of your silver coins

U.S. Silver Coin Calculator: Finds Silver Value in Coins: Prices, Charts Performance - Coin News

the mint has a shortage of silver for making their special issue siver coins. they are having trouble getting more.

it might be a good idea to pick up some if you can get slver at a decent price while prices are still under $20.00 an ounce.

the upside looks better than the downside.

{tip} don't buy any from coin shows on tv, they are all overpriced!!

local coin shops or ebay are the best way to get deals or the usmint.com web site when they finally list the 2010 issues for sale.

1961 to 1964 proof sets sell for around 20.00 on ebay, melt value of silver in them is $10.96 current price and the bonus is you have a mint issue proof set thet is around 35 years old..

disclaimer-----invest only what you can afford to lose, and don't blame me if the bottom falls out of the silver market

    your comments are welcome

Looks like those three Morgan Silver dollars I got on eBay ten years ago for $20.00 are worth double that now! Thanks lucky.

Even though I collected some when I was younger I'm not a coin collector, still I wonder how many valuable and irreplaceable coins get melted down in times like this.

this is the way they issued proof sets till 1964.

my older son had given me a 25.00 ebay gift card for christmas.

i got this 1957 set for $25.00 buy it now plus 4.50 shipping.

i used bing for search and will get a 2.00 paypal credit in 60 days.

the blanks and dies are polished and coins are struck 2 or 3 times for high relief.

this is the lowest priced set that contains a proof wheat cent and its 43 years old

Almost Paul, almost! I didn't ask it though. Nice set, like the wheat back. I have a complete set of wheat backs. Well that is except for the important ones!

here's all the proof set mintage figures

you will notice there are less than a total of 4 million proof wheat cents

PROOF SET MINTAGES - United States Proof Coins mint set production numbers and amounts

usually the older the sets the lower the mintages

when silver hit $50.00 an ounce many of the 90% silver sets were torn apart and silver coins melted for scrap.

Another way to own silver is to buy bags of the scrap silver coins. These are mostly VERY circulated coins that you basically only pay for the silver value. The beauty of owning silver this way is that even if the silver market totally tanked the coins would always be worth at least the face value of the coin.

Well we can only hope silver does not tank. If it does gold will and we will all be in deep ...
I have always reccommended .999 silver bars because coin are only 90% silver and the old junk coins they just melt. When the price goes up it goes up alot faster on.999 silver than coins.

Any reputable coin dealer will sell you 90% bags of silver. I do not reccomend you say scrap as that is bent and holed coins. If you buy 90% coins you want circulated coins. A better buy still is to buy a quality .999 ounce silver round. Made by Silvertowne, Englhard, or Sunshine to name a few of the good ones. You should be able to buy them for around a dollar or two ove the posted spot price of silver.
