Mudfud, the bridgeport 56 is something that really comes in handy. I have used one many times. It is for when you need to get the nail head above the surface of the wood. The sliding part of the shaft hammers the two claws below the surface to grab the nail head. Used mainly for framing nails. It will sometimes pull the nail all the way out but mostly just enough to get at the head with the claw hammer.
If you ever need to use it for it's intended purpose watch the hand placement!
    hey lazarus,

I just won a bridgeport 56 on ebay for $20 shipped. I plan to modify it, of course, for pachinko nails. more to come. I think I'll buy a second one, too, for actual demolition work, I have a pantry remodel coming this year.

I agree that the rabbit looking corkscrew would be good. I had one made by crate and barrel that had a plastic know that rotated and the corkscrew went the other direction. it just might not be strong enough for chinko nails.

I have been scouring the kitchen, too, and the wife keeps catching me... step away from my scraper, that is a kitchen tool, not a construction tool... I ruined her good scissors with epoxy grout... I have to get her a new pair, as I keep hearing about it...

Mopar, the problem with your Houdini corkscrew is going to be the large surface that will have to rest on the playfield. The other pins get in the way. This is why I cut my puller so that it has 2 feet, rather than a complete circle for the base.

Regardless, I spent big on a wing style corkscrew today-- $1.60-- and already hacked at it. It's working like a charm. I need to redesign the 4 feet that rest on the playfield, but it's going to be much quicker than the drill operated one I built.

I know, I know-- pictures. Well, it's just not ready for prime time yet. It's functional, but not yet pretty enough for this crowd. Hopefully tomorrow night.

well for your electric one would something like this Mac Tools Online Store - CDS200
be better suited for it since you can reverse with just a touch of a button? I know Harbor freight sells a similar item for much less. I would think you would just have to grind or sand the tip in to a hex to fit it.

    back to your original design...

i think i understand your complant was get it reset after u pulled a nail??

if u put a jam nut on the bolt.. that way when u reset the bolt it would run down to the jam nut and stop at the right position..

    New and improved!
So much so, that it's time for the yellow booty shake
Wait, better make that a double
Testing out my new mechanical version. Oh so quick and easy. Really nice, and about a 45 minute build. Now you have no excuse-- you must go and pull some pachinko pins. Even if you don't have any fields you want to restore, do it anyway, because now it's fuuuuuun
I left the bottle opener part intact for obvious reasons. Sitting down to pull hundreds of pins from a playfield without a beer... well, it just seems wrong

nice job. just what I was thinking about. can you post a close up of the slot where the nails hook?

I have two nail pullers coming, one that is slide handle and one that has grippy jaws and you pry with a hammer. also, there is another very cool old time nail puller on ebay, but it's probably way too big for pachinko nails, as it sits on a heavy base.

in fact, there is a whole book about nail pullers listed on ebay. I guess this is one of those "build a better mouse trap" things.

but, I will bet that there haven't been too many specialty pachi nail pullers.

how did you pad the ring of the corkscrew so it didn't indent on the cell?

You guys have been coming up with some great ideas. Hey Chewy, you mentioned the book on Ebay.

The tool in the center of the page caught my eye. It would be great for speed, minimal damage to the playfield and less time setting the tool up before pulling. Just a different twist on Digitals claw hammer method.

Of course if your pulling nails you're probably going to replace the playfield anyway.

yeah, I'm still thinking about the "ultimate" pachinko nail puller.

I was thinking of prototyping on the sumo machine that I picked up. the cell is not bad, but the nails are really corroded. I think that acid bath and tumbling is the way to go.

I love bouncing ideas off you guys. maybe we will come up with trademarked pachitalk tools (if sid approves, of course )

That padding you see is a white plastic collar that was part of the corkscrew, cut to match the hacked metal feet and epoxied back into place.

Now I need a "Bad Pachi" so I can make another tool and start pulling. Not many in this area.
