Default Q: Finding hidden speaker wires to install vol control

    Hey Friends,

I'm messing with my "new" Kyoraku 9 Drums Gladiator. My first modern .
I ran out and bought a potentiometer today based on the helpful postings from fellow members. Because, even though there is a factory installed volume control, at the lowest setting it's LOUD, which means no midnight pachinko frenzies for me on this machine.

My mindset is still based on vintages, where everything is easily accessible and relatively simple. I didn't expect the single speaker, which is in the ball cash-out tray, to be buried so ridiculously deep in the machine. It literally looks like a complete teardown would be required to get at it. Not gonna happen. Not this time.

Any advice on identifying which wires feed the speaker? There are about 8 going into that particular region of that chamber from the rear of the machine.

    Thanks!

I don't have my machines here but if I remember correctly. Open the front glass door. Inside to the right there is a level which will open the ball tray up. you will then be able to get to the speaker. If you need a smaller volume control. I sell them in the Pachitalk auction. They are about the size of a dime & work great.

First order of business is one of these:

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Opening that led me to yet another level, which then opened the lowermost drawer. I am there!

If this totally fails, I'll buy them from you. I was in a hurry and also wanted something with a knob right next to the speaker so I could adjust it on the fly.

I'm not sure if I did the right thing, but ended up buying a 25 ohm, 3 watt "rheostat." If that's all wrong, please stop me now!

I do not think that is going to be enough. Mine are 500 ohm.

My 9 Drums is buried by a double stack of 10 Pachislo's right now.

If I can dig it out, I'll take a look for the wiring and post Pic's.

The in line resistors I use to "Calm" the Beasts are rated at 68 Ohms. (Blue / Gray / Black). And work Quite Well.

    Hey rubberratt,
Thanks for the offer, but don't bother. I have a little pot wired to my board to, but the problem is that it takes the volume down from deafening to merely louder than hell, so I'm supplementing it with an additional pot.

I put an L-pad on mine so I can change the volume at will during play. I can't stand the spin music, but I like the fever music.

I agree. And I'd like to hear that fever music more often. This will allow me to crank it up when/if it happens so the whole neighborhood knows
Check out my new post and see what you think of the volume control placement.
