Default Daido machine "takara spotless" early 80s

OK it was suggested that I start a separate thread so I'll start one here.

I just saw the balls have markings on them too so am gonna post shots of those too. Found out my dad got it at Wal-Mart of all places - he said there were only three machines and they were all just stand-alone and different looking. It was like $29.00 when he bought it.

Thanks for the new thread on this unusual machine! Based on the mechanics on the back side, I would guess the machine was built in the mid 70's. It has a similar design to a Nishijin 'B' series machine.

    Again, Welcome to PachiTalk!

u would add 25 to that to give a 67 expiration date.. that seems awful old?? hard to read is it a 52???

    please confirm that number

    Genex -

You indicated that you needed some help getting the machine to work. What exactly is the problem?

The most common issue with these machines is not having enough balls loaded in the top jackpot hopper. Start with a minimum of 500 pachinko balls (widely available for .03 to .04 cents each [after shipping] on ebay) and load up that top hopper. Next you will want to make sure the jackpot payout see-saw is in the proper position (see photo). This picture shows you where the jackpot payout see-saw is, and it is in the proper position in this picture.

Assuming that there are no obstructions or ball jams, your machine should begin working properly.

Let us know if you are having any difficulties after trying these steps. be sure to include detailed photos in your posts, as we REALLY like to see photos in this forum.

    Good luck!!

    Jeff

Footnote: For some reason I am unable to upload pics to this thread. I will try to upload them in a few minutes.

Hey JACKSJE4, I did clear out those balls so thanks for noticing that. I am still new to all the terminology so I didn't know what you were talking about but finally saw those balls.

Also, as far as what doesn't work, the main issue right now is that the balls won't load into the shooter area. Not sure if something is obstructing it but I'll take pix and label the problem so you guys can see. I think everything else should be working right though.

Trying to figure out how to pack and ship the thing back home to San Francisco too so I can tinker once I'm back there.

Thanks so much for all the help everyone!

    hey genex.

get a box from a bicycle shop or large screen TV.

make sub boxes to protect any trays that stick out (or remove them for shipping)

fedex has been the easiest on my pachi's so far.

pack them on their side or standing up, marked "this side up". then cross fingers.

    good luck

we'll have to meet up. I'm in berkeley.

It sounds to me like the upper jackpot hopper doesn't have enough balls in it to trigger the ball launch release mechanism. This was a feature built into the machines so that people couldn't play them if the jackpot payout hopper was empty. When you load balls into the hopper, the weight of the balls will trigger the ball launch release mechanism and open the loading path on the front of the machine and allow balls to flow to the ball launcher.

I've labeled these parts on the attached photo of the rear of your machine to help you learn the terminology.

Again, if you fill the jackpot payout hopper then your ball launcher should work normally.

Hey thanks for that - I will try that out. Actually I have to leave town tomorrow morning so I am gonna have to get back to this later but I took a few more pix.

I think I'll try the hopper thing before anything else though!

Make sure that the door for that player tray isn't bent. I had that same problem with the balls not passing that point of my first vintage because of that. Good luck.

You can open up that tray panel to look for a jam by opening the glass (look for a lever on the back—one opens the glass and the other opens the whole cabinet) and then press down on a metal lever you'll find somewhere along the upper edge of the metal panel.

    Hi Genex,

The internal guts of your machine are from Mizuho and is from the early 70's. I have the exact same machine as far as the guts are concerned. As far as the balls not loading, open the cell window and there should be a lever on the lower left side corner that will open the launcher panel. Then you can gain access to the shooter mechanism and clear out the obstruction.

I'm not sure how productive adding to a three-year-old thread will be, but here goes. My late father also had the Daido Spotless, which I've inherited. By trial-and-error and The Google I've learned quite a bit, including that this mechanism HATES not having a healthy supply of balls in it. Mine has no cover in the second ball supply ramp, which I will attack some day--the balls tend to "shingle" and jam up. ("Shingle" is a conveyor term where the constraint isn't enough to keep a single-file/single level flow. I write packaging machine manuals for a living.)

My present problem is that the center tulip jams up. The first ball through closes the tulip and drops through normally. The next ball bounces inside the tulip, where I assume it's supposed to pass through and open the tulip at the same time. Mostly it doesn't, so subsequent balls jam the tulip. This is a very easy mechanism to take apart, and I can detect nothing binding with the tulip mechanism. I was looking for a missing spring location, as in initial testing a 5/8" or so long spring came out of the payout with a bunch of balls! But there are no apparent attachment points.

    The ashtray works perfectly.

Welcome to the Pachinko Club, Bruce! Thanks for taking the time to join our site.

I'm glad you tested the ashtray and found that it works - that is probably the most difficult thing on the machine to repair, so you are very fortunate!

Seriously, tulip issues are usually caused by one of two things: 1) Dirty contact points between the metal tongues on the ramp and the plastic tulip petals, or 2) the metal tongues on the ramp need to be adjusted outward slightly (towards the plastic petals). One of those two scenarios will return you to tulip glory.

As for the missing ball ramp cover on the back, there are a number of "mods" we have employed here. Many use cardboard or thin wood cut to size, then wedged in with a piece of foam, but I like to cut a piece of thin plexi to fit the area snug enough to hold in place without any type of fastener.

Please post some photos of your machine when you get a moment, as tech support is no longer a free service. We require photos as payment.

Again, welcome to the site. Please visit us daily and post often.
