unless your actually buying and it's that important, just assume penny per yen.

rate is really lousy right now (I remember the 112+ to a buck days), currently around 87 yen to the dollar, so :
    26,000.00 JPY = 297.855 USD

Latest interesting vintage prices from Japan Yahoo:

    • A Takao vintage which went for 22,000 yen
    • A Nishijin tulip machine for 10,000 yen
    • A Sankyo tulip for 20,000 yen (sorry, only the auction pic for this one)
    • And a Sanyo 'Jet' machine for 25,956 yen
    See all attached.

Overall, prices for Vintage machines in Japan continue to be strong. More common ones go for under 10,000 yen, but as you can see, machines seen as somewhat 'rarer' are finding marks around US$250-$300...

What is it that makes vintages so high in Japan? Did they really send that many of them over here so as to make them hard to get there? Or is it low production runs and/or favorite machines that drive the prices. Some of the ones that I have seen that are pricey over there are cool but nothing spectacular or as interesting as many commonly found on CL. It would be great to have more info on these machines and their respective manufacturers such as production dates and numbers...

Wouldn't it though? One day perhaps someone will produce such a list, or find the info in Japan and translate across.

I guess kinda like a Model T. Not that spectacular a car, but rare. They were considered throw away after their lives were over. When you now have over 1 million machines retired every year, if you kept them all, it would kinda add up. When was the last time you saw a dial phone or a payphone? Yeah, not worth a lot, but give it time. The more that are destroyed, the more people that like that sort of thing will want them.

One day someone's gotta go over there and buy that guy with the museum dinner and interview him! Then spend the next several weeks going from manufacturer to manufacturer and see if they'll give any information. C'mon Lottery!

Agreed. But knowing the production numbers still wouldn't give us a direct indication of rarity though Emmadog.

In Japan, as rightly pointed out above, things that were 'old' were simply discarded. Not just pachinko machines of course - all old things in Japan were considered 'gomi' (garbage) and usually discarded. Ask any foreigner living in Japan how they furnished their apartments in the 80's and 90's (and until recently, before the GFC perhaps). They got their couch, TV, toasters, rice cookers, table and chairs, bicycles, you name it - it was from the roadside garbage! While I lived there in 91-93, I got everything for our place from kerbside castaways, and so did every foreigner I knew.

The Japanese are only just starting to get over the stigma of somebody else's s/hand goods being 'worthless'. eBay has only every failed in one territory worldwide - guess where? Yahoo JP has succeeded for other reasons (a whole other topic), but I'd be willing to lay a bet they have only done it on the back of re-educating the Japanese public that 'gomi' is sometimes collectable, and acceptable to sell. Because the Japanese have never really accepted this before.

I would guess MORE vintages were exported to the USA, than kept in Japan, for the reasons above. THOSE figures would be fascinating.

And you better take me as translator when you go visit Compirate. Our contact man doesn't speak English too well, so I'm told...

I would say also that having not grown up in Japan, we have no idea what any game is worth. Some we have may be worth plenty to them because of some milestone in manufacture or it was a very popular game in it's time or a very rare maker. There's one classic modern that was part of some very seedy thing (I think it was easy to manipulate or something) so they were pulled from the market and destroyed or something so they would be hard to come by too.

I'll stop and pick you up on the way through, candyflip! Don't pack your bags any time soon though, I'll give you plenty of warning

Exclamation Satomi Miracle 7A II Arrangeball auction price

A vintage Arrangeball machine went overnight. It was listed as 'Junk' (for parts, or repair) but obviously some keen interest.

Historically interesting picture but very sad subject matter!!! You know there's probably warehouses to this day full of "junk" machines...

that's a nice case on machine 3. the two doors mean less space needed to access the back. wonder if this was custom made by an old vintage collector?

    Another one overnight.

This is a 1973 (Showa 48 according to the Seller) Nishijin 'shiroi kamome' (from the front faceplate - meaning 'white seagull').
