    Default Ladder resistor mod

Are there any other vendors that I can buy these resistors from? Xicon brand Moser part #282-16 (2 watt 5% metal oxide power resister). I ordered 100 from Mouser Electronics. They said they are back ordered untill April 4th. They don't even have 15 on hand. I figured that if I ordered 15 the shipping would be the same for 100. Just my luck

I tried the ladder resisters on one machine. I will be taking them off and putting on some l_pads. They are big,do not look good or professional and no control over the sound when they are in place.

As noted above, if you want adjustability, go with the L-Pad. I have been doing the resistors for a while. I did my 1st L-Pad last night and was quite impressed. If you just want to cut the volume without adjustability, there are simpler resistor configurations which are not as bulky or ugly as the ladder setup. The nominal impedance of the combination does not have to exactly match the nominal impedance of the speaker. You should avoid going lower, but going a little higher should be OK. I personally don't care to drive the impedance way up with potentiometers, but there are tons of machines out there that are plugging along just fine with them.

For regular "loud" speakers, I normally use a 10 ohm between the + wire and the - terminal and a 33 ohm between the + wire and the + terminal to cut the volume down. For "ear bleeding" speakers, it gets more involved and L-Pads start to look better and better

Just rewired my L-Pad. Now Min = Min instead Min = Max.

I modified the picture as to prevent future confusion. The l-pad has numbers on it so just match them up. Also, if you have a tight space heat shrink tubing is a lifesaver! You don't have to try and get a crimper in.

Thanks David R. for the modification of the diagram for the L-Pad mod. I had my L-Pad wired up wrong. Now the L-Pad works great. That was why I was going to go with the resistor ladder. I have canceled my order from Mouser Electronics.

That picture matches the one on the box of my partsexpress L-Pad. I don't think the polarity matters, but it is important to have the speaker hooked to 2 and the amp hooked to 3. If you reverse those, I don't think you get the right impedance on the amp.
