    Question Key/Lock Issue

Friends, I picked up a Thunderbirds Pachislo at a bargan price off of Craigslist.

Unfortunately, the door key was broken off in the lock. I got the broken key out and managed to open the machine door by picking the lock.
I will take the broken key to a keyshop in hopes that they can make me a key.

I disassembled the lock mech. and thought I would try an ARBY lock mod. No dice. This machine has a tubular extension on it which is pinned in place. Has anyone done a lock mod on this type of lock and if so how did you do it?

The best fix would be to get a new lock/key assembly.

As you can see from the attached pics, I have all the cams.

Does anyone have a lock W/Keys?

That's the generic lock Gaku uses, all keyed the same. I'm sure anyone who has more than one of his machines has an extra key.

If you drill the two brass holding pins (circled) the top chrome part of the lock will come off. Inside there should be a series of brass pins and springs. Take all the pins and springs out~ reassemble the lock and then pack the holes which you drilled with a steel epoxy puddy. Any key which fits should be able to open the lock.

Don't drill to deep. Only about a 1/8th inch or until the brass is no more.

I sort of solved my problem.

I went to a keyshop and had another key made up. It works turning clockwise (reset) but not so good counter-clockwise (opens the door). The key turns about 10% of the time. The locksmith said that the lock was shot.

In the short term I'm going to try to drill the pins and strip all the wafers from the lock. Thanks Ebb!

I need a lock and key set.

I've had luck with a tight lock using a dry powder graphite.
Might be worth a shot before you drill.
    Good luck

The locks are meant to work with 2 keys, one for reset(attendant), other to reset/open door (manager).

Like I said, it's the generic lock Gaku uses, I'm surprised no one has an extra one.

    Who knows.

    I'm drilling! I don't see a down side.

    Smile Re: Key/Lock Issue

    I drilled the lock.

The tubular material was about 1/16" thick so I had to drill that deep. It was not hard to do, even with my hand drill, the brass pins were soft.

Although I was able to remove the cylinder I could not disassemble it.

As I was trying to figure out a way to take the cylinder apart I noticed a small spring hanging out of the rear of the cylinder (see first pic, left side top of lock cylinder). I gave it a tug and it came out. BRAINSTORM ... try the key.
BANG! It works perfectly. Dumb Luck for sure.

3 Screws later and the lock is back in the machine and working perfectly!
