Question about Lumina Frames

I see references to the Lumina Frame machines and I'm wondering if they are the only ones that are able to use a battle counter? I thought you had to have two machines set up in order to use a battle counter but the video instruction that I watched seemed to show it hooked to only one machine. So I can see that I need a lesson in what exactly a battle counter does and are they only connectable to a Lumina frame machine? If so, what are the best (I know that's a relative term) Lumina machines out there?

A battle counter keeps track of data like how many spins since the last bonus how many bonus' in the last few days etc...they work on all sorts of pachis..I know very little about them, but I think different frames will need different wiring harnesses and that there are ones just for slots too...maybe some of the fine people here that actually know what they are talking about will be able to answer you a little better!!
