Default replacement of 1 side of wood frame with japanese mahogony

here's the pix that I promised jeff. he was kind enough to ship 2 pieces of japanese mahogany to me, to match the split frame piece on my sankyo.

interestingly, this wood is much harder and more brittle than the more open grain wood that is on my sankyo. the color matches well, though.

my dad and I had trouble with the wood splinting and chipping, and if you didn't predrill the hole all the way in, the screw would stop dead.

dado was cut on a milling machine.

boy were those rusty nails hard to pull. they were very long and really stuck.

plan to clean the nicotine off the tracks on the back of this one and probably sell it. the cell is in perfect condition and the lights work. it's just not "unusual" enough for my collection anymore.

Nice job, Mudfud. I noticed as well that the wood used on these machines splinters easily and splits. Pilot holes are definitely the best way to alleviate this.

    Excellent job!!

That side you replaced looks like it came with the machine.

Well i hope you can get more of that wood and if needed ,i can store a whole bunch of those planks .

I've worked on all the Tool& Die machines and have some wood working skills if we want to make new frames.

I think Arby has made new frames in the past.

yeah, you should see the things I come up with sometimes in the ER... but, hey, I figure it having lots of skills makes me more creative when something unusual comes along.
