OK... now i know. If you don't have enough balls in the hopper, it releases the lockout mechanism which closes the ball feed door. As long as I hold it open it all works.

Thanks!! I'll keep you all up on how it's going. I'll tackle the lights tomorrow. I have a feeling I know why the ball out indicator light switch was taken out...

Thank you! I played it for a while last night with the gate rigged. Can't play for very long and then you're out of balls.

One question I have not gotten answered is a key for the door. I did not get one. Does anybody know... are they all the same? Where might i obtain one
    ?

the keys aren't usually available, since the pachinko parlors wouldn't want you to be able to unlock their machines.

most of us don't bother, since we have access to the backs of the machines.

only time it would be good to be able to open the door is if you wall mount it, and even then, I found a nice case with a round hole routed in the side so you can reach in and lift the latch without a key

there is a thread where someone replaced the cylinder and rekeyed.

or, you could take off the tab that keeps the door shut in the back and have it stay shut by friction, which would keep it looking stock.

nice machine. my first was a daiichi. welcome to pachitalk.

I took the lock apart and took out the tumblers. Now I just need a screwdriver or a pocketknife to turn and unlock it. Still looks stock and if a key was found, it would still work.

Ha... I just noticed that the icon that I chose is a thumbs down... definately anything but that.

I got looking at this thing a little more today and made an observation. I put some of the few balls I have in the hopper, and it's not enough to turn on the jackpost mechanism. Gotta get some balls!! I am pretty sure this thing is working as it should now. It was jammed up with balls for some reason. Thinking I am going to have to dismantle it for cleaning internally. No biggie. I've restored slot machines... this should be a walk in the park.

Post Re: Just picked up a Daiichi Vangaurd

    Yes, thank you.

Hey, another question. Down towards the bottom left in the back is a plastic hook that can be held back on a nail that is strategically installed (or not). It seems to keep an internal lever in the dump mechanism from going down. Can anybody tell me what this is for? My guess is that it makes it dump only after it is full...

Also, what is the purpose of the 4 balls pressed into plastic levers towards the top of the machine that seem to do nothing??

the white plastic part at the top? They're there as weights. The plastic pieces help to prevent jams by smoothing out the flow of the balls.

Yep... I'll get to it. I've got something here... flu? Not too inclined to get up outta the chair. It's out in the garage. I'm in here. Maybe tomorrow. I looked at my pictures to see if it's visible in any of them but it's not.

I still dont' understand about the things at the top. they don't hang down far enough to actually touch the balls that I can see. To me, it looks like they have no function at all.

They're there in the event the balls double layer. They knock them down to a single layer. Doesn't happen all the time, but could jam up otherwise.

I guess that makes sense. Now I just need an answer to the plastic hook. It was hooked up on the nail, but I un-hooked it. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow morning. I've only had this thing about a week, and I'm already addicted. Now I just need a good deal on some balls.

OK, here is a picture of the "Hook" I was asking about. It's the one hooked on the nail I am wondering about...

BTW, I've got the rubber band on there to hold the "empty" lever down until I get more balls.

    interesting

does it move at all... does it move during a jackpot payout?
