They do. I would guess there's enough electronics in the chargers to prevent this sort of thing. Now don't underestimate the power of an idiot to bypass the safety stuff though!

i use lipo batteries in my RC cars.. they are kinda scary

i have never had a problem but other at my local track have... jsut like that .. big fires..

but keep in mind thouse have great power output and long life.. they will make any rc run faster then longer then any other battery on the market

Do they have different classes for LiPo powered cars? What charger do you use?

My charger will work with them, but don't have any for cars, just the occasional battery for some device that I've lost the charger for (like an older phone).

theres a ton of chargers on the market for rc.. its knowing the settings to match the battery and how meany cells it has..

all though my post says use it should have said used... sold all but one nitro truck early last year

if your looking for a charger Dave i would find a good local RC shop and go in and talk to them.. lipo realy got started in planes then moved onto the car so any good hobby shop will be able to help ya out

I have one, probably was in the middle of looking for a picture of one of my vehicles when you posted. Yeah, they don't tell you much in the instructions how to set it up. I do remember the 'timer knob' days before peak charger days, killed more than a couple of batteries back then, then the charger. I've even got the temp probe for the one I have now, no fires for me!

most of the newest chargers have a feed back protection.. if the battery will not take a charge at a fastenough rate the charger will shut its self down..

the old school chargers with a knob style chargers will pump a charge till the timer runs out.. thouse were and are really unsafe and just hard on the battery

what are u needing to charge??

nothing, I was just commenting on LiPo batteries and wondering what charger you used and if they have different racing classes for different batteries.

I've still got mostly NiCd, looks to me that NiMH is the newer cheap battery these days, but I'm sure if they make more Lithium one's the price will come down, unless they start using them more in cars, then the supply of smaller ones may be an issue.
