    Default I'm now addicted.

My Daughter did it to me now! She bought another machine from the same consignment store for me. It is a Heiwa and works perfectly and I did the dismantle and clean thing as I did on the Daughter's Nishijin KanLess. That was a couple of weeks ago. OK, it doesn't stop there. I saw another machine on Craig's List and bought it last Saturday. It's Mizuho and I love it. Really nice and clean and worked right away. I like the way the back plastic mechanism pops off in one big piece - turn six latches and off it comes - takes 30 seconds. All the wiring and lights come off as a unit - no nasty staples to remove. I also dug another machine out of the dumpster at the local airport. It's a Sankyo and the front is all there and will clean up OK with a little work but the back has been striped.
I now have two working machines so when my grandchildren come over, as they do often, there is a machine for each of them to play. They were over last night and this worked out well. And my granddaughter, age 10, says, Grandpa would you explain to me how the machine works? I, of course, was delighted to. We spent the next half hour watching winning balls go through the machine and seeing what happened at each step of the way. She asked lots of questions and seem to understand the operation. She asked, why are there two bells Grandpa? So I loaded up the feed tray to overload and she could see the rocker tip so that that the jackpot balls were diverted to the other bell. What a thrill to have a granddaughter interested in mechanical things!

    More later. Gordy

    Welcome!

We do have a 12 step program but I think step 10 or 11 is

    - If it is less then $20 it is OK to buy -

so its not all that effective really.

For example I had three machines when I joined here and I will pickup number thirteen on Saturday.(which is kinda creepy as it is Halloween)

But that's OK as I will stop one day...(when I have one of every kind ever made)

I had the same experience one turned into three in a few weeks. I haven't allowed myself to go on eBay or CL since I bought the third. Now I spend too much time on PachiTalk...

So far my experiences have been limited to Nishijin, but Mizuho is one of the other manufacturers that I'm interested in. When you have some time, it'd be great to see some pictures of those latches and the back removed, I've never seen anything like that before.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Here's some more pictures of the Mizuho for Mike - shows how the back assemble comes off in one piece.

I like the eagle on the play field with the green hills and blue sky in the background. Can't say much for the Karaoke guy. The orange makes him look like a jack-o-lantern. Note another eagle lower left by the number 13.

Picture No. 4 shows the back 30 seconds after turning the six thumb latches and popping the mechanical assembly off. Now you can see the six yellow latches clearly, also two wooden dowels that align the assembly when reinstalling it. Next is the front view of the assembly and you can see the two light bulbs and how easy it is to change them if necessary. And finally, the back of the assembly.

    Awesome, thank you.

Does anyone know if the latching system is a feature of Mizuho's? Something from a particular date / era?

I continue to be amazed at the diversity of the vintages.

My Mizuho has the identical removable back.

Also my Maruto has a removable back. It even has a swing away hinge attached so the back section can be removed or just swung open to access the rear of the cell.

the sanyo comet II's also come off after removing 4 plastic knobs on screws. makes for easy cleaning. maybe it was faster to preassemble and just screw the whole thing on at the factory? also, easier to clean the tracks and such in the parlors.
