Default Power Flash Pachinko up and Running

I received my Power Flash this week and it is up and running like a champ. The solenoid circuits were perfectly fine, just had to wire up all the lights (and the 2 LED "eyes" a la chewy). I have no idea why the owner cut away all of the wires, j-box etc.. Maybe he needed them for a beer fridge or something. Overall, it just needed a good cleaning and a few bends here and there. The frame has no rust at all and the playfield is immaculate. Very happy with it, I better be for the price..

I am using a 24vdc power supply for the solenoids, so the wiring is a bit simplified. The power supply was a freebie from a friend. This is the first one I have ever played - very fun (except for the yellow tulips - they are evil).

    Just a few pictures.

    just a note

if u swing by the radio shack u can pick up a much smaller transformer (size).. the advantage with it is that it has a spliter wire that u can run the lights off of.. no need for a 9 volt just a plug and play.. 24 volt to the solonoids and 12 volt to the lights

very nice looking machine . im glad it turned out to be in good shape

I will have to check that out. The SOLA is a very nice power supply, a little large. I thought that the RS transformer was a little low on amps, though. Am I wrong on that?

if memory serves it is a 2 amp transformer.. it has worked great on my pachinkos that need power.. but i must say it is to small for Arepachi.. but the Arepachi has two solonoids opperating at the same time for extended lenght of time..

Yep pins use them extensively. In the PowerFlashes pachinkos the solenoids are activated by microswitches that are tripped by the balls falling into win pockets. On these particular machines the solenoids are used to open and close tulips depending on which win pockets the balls land in. The solenoids when activated move a plastic frame up and down that articulates with a metal rod extending out from the back of each tulip. There are 4 moving frames and a solenoid for each.

Emma did a great job explaining the PF. If you get a ball in the center jackpot, all 9 tulips open at once via the solenoids. You can also hit a pocket to open all 4 tulips on each side individually. There are also 2 yellow tulips (they are evil) that will close all of the tulips on that respective side of the machine.

It is a very fun machine, very sought after. There are a bunch of posts and related pictures about the solenoid circuit - it runs on 24vDC.

All of the transformers I found output 24 AC (like the RS one) and would require a bridge rectifier. I did find one for 24vDC, but it was only .330 A (A previous post here calculated that 4 A was needed). The one I have is an industrial power supply for PLC controllers and outputs 24vDC @ 5 A. A little large, but very effective. I got it as a freebie, so I am happy (they are $330 new). I have yet to find a low cost transformer that puts out 24 vDC with the amps needed.

    GB Jax,
Here is the transformer that I have powered 3 Power Flashes with. It's 24V and 4 amp output for $13.50.

Hey GB, just reread your post and saw that you were looking for 24DC. Good luck in finding one.

I have a very nice 24vdc industrial power supply. I was just responding to mopar's comment about an alternative that is a smaller size. I did not see any alternatives that output dc. It was a freebie and works excellent.
