    Default covering those pesky waterstains...

OK. here's a first pass at cutting decals to cover the waterstains on my hokoku.

the pieces aren't stuck down yet, just trying out the color scheme and shapes.

    what do you guys/gals think?

I tried sticking a piece of this onto my coffee mug at work (a work buddy used to have a decal cutting machine, and had scraps), and it seems to stick really well and come right off.

digital also kindly printed some varying shades of blue for me, which I will keep for other water stains and projects.

p.s. the wife says I need a wisp of dark blue on the bottom, to tie in the colors... she's right, of course, and there are water stains down there, too.

OK, here are the final "stuck on" decals, with the blue accents at the bottom.

it was hard to get the large swoosh at the top in the right place, but it was not hard to pull it off when I accidentally stuck it to the wrong place.

Nice idea, but won't that affect the roll of the balls?

the decal paper is very thin, so I'm hoping not. if so, a little jump in the ball probably won't hurt anything. it will be less annoying than those giant waterstains.

will check back after I have run a few thousand balls through the face.

That's a great idea, and has certainly made a difference to the look of the cell.

This should give hope to others who have badly stained cells on an otherwise great pachinko

    That turned out awesome!

I don't think the vinyl will affect the game play at all.

Old post, I know. Just trying to catch up.
I have to know, how did this method hold up? What was the exact material/product you used.
    Seems like a great idea.

I want to believe there's a way to significantly lighten these water stains, but I just don't know.

it's held up well, though I haven't run more than a couple hundred balls through it.

I will say, however, that the same decal material stuck to my coffee mug has stuck well through several dishwasher cycles and lots of use.

the material is decal paper, I got some from digital1 and from a coworker. I have lots in dark blue, light blue and yellow if you need some.

without taking all the nails out and refinishing the cell, I think it's a good alternative.

Cool. It looks like you took some nails out, right?
I hear they are barbed on the ends. Is this problematic?
I am thinking about completely redoing the playfield on a badly waterstained machine I have, but it would obviously involve removing and replacing all of the pins, and a lot of careful drilling. It would either be a flyfishing or Sleestak theme.

check out microbus' cell redo, as that is the most amazing to date.

I have tried repainting blistered areas and then clear coating with epoxy.

the nails do have a twist at the end, but pulling straight and slightly counter clockwise they come out pretty easily. it's just that there are about 200 of them, so it's at least an hour's job.

my franken pachi is the first time that I have pulled this many nails, and I have to say that unless the cell is destroyed like this one, that I don't think that it's worth it.

Sounds ugly, but the opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind machine may be irresistible.
    Thanks for your help.

It realy is a challange pulling and replacing all the nails. If you are good at that sort of thing, and the machine is in bad need, it can be fun to try.
There are lots of posts about this subject now, so look at those for advice.
