Default Introduction and a couple of questions.

Hello All! I just recently joined the forum and am extremely excited about reading all the informative posts and getting started with this cool hobby!!

The first Pachinko game I saw and played was back in the early 70's at Atlantic Beach, North Carolina. We always got to go to the "rides" on Friday night, but one year something unexpected had been opened. We walked into this building to check it out and there were several rows of some game called "Pachinko" My mother, sister and I were mesmerized. It was only there that one summer, but I remember you could use the balls you won to trade for stuffed toys and the like. Ever since then I have wanted to get a Pachinko machine and now because of this site I should be able to gain the knowledge to restore one of these "futuristic" games. Well, they seemed that way to me when I was 10 years old!!

So, my questions...does anybody remember other such "parlors" opening up in the US back in this time?

Also, I have found 3 vintage machines within about a 2 hour drive on CL and didn't know if any of these would be a good first machine to start this journey with. I'll try and post some pics of the machines I found.

    Thanks for listening.

    WELCOME Sigrah !

I saw my first pachinko in 1971 at a penny arcade in Keansburg NJ. Likewise, you could turn in your won spheres for prizes.

    Welcome to Pachitalk

my first pachinko was my dads.. i would love to see a bunch of vintage set up parlor style

    I HATE CRAIGS LIST PICTURES!!!

i wish they would allow slightly larger pictures.. its hard to say if one of thouse is better then any other.. for me vintage Pachinko is one of thouse things that is better bought in person.. condition is as important as the style..

with no pictures of the backs it is also hard to judge

good luck to ya post pic of the one's u get...

yes u will buy more then one

    Welcome to PachiTalk Sigrah!!

It's always best to get some close up pics of the front and back when thinking about buying a Vintage, that way you can check all the parts are there and what condition it is in

    hi ron!

welcome to pachitalk. this is a GREAT forum with friendly people and LOTS of information about pachi's

my first exposure to pachi's was at the japanese village in the LA area. they had a petting zoo with deer, but they all got sick and died... that probably would have been late 60's to early 70's

in regards to the machine you just got pix of, I would pass because the cell (the face of the machine) is so stained. this cannot be repaired, and really detracts from the look and value.

there are many machines to be found on craigs' if you can be patient (I know it's hard at first)

price wise, i bought my early machines for as much as $75 each, say b/c I didn't have a single shot yet, or b/c they were really clean on the front.

then, I have bought off ebay for as high as $90 plus shipping, for "unusual" machines.

at the other end of the spectrum, folks have found nice machines for free or 5-10 bucks at garage sales, rummage sales, neighbor's garages...

I have a few nice "spares" that I could sell for cheap to a new pachitalker. my friend gets a ship discount, so I could get it to NC for $30.

I will post pix in the album "chewy's spare machines"

have fun. I think the hunt is fun, but the mechanical restoration is my favorite part.

    Mudfud,

Thanks for the info and your kind offer!

In the meantime I received another response from one of the CL ads.

    Here are the pics.

Any thoughts? Is that a water stain I see on the cell at about 1 o'clock?

    Thanks,

    Ron

    hey there.

yes, that is a water stain at 1 o clock, and also behind the upper nails.

they happen when the cell gets clean with too much water, or maybe if kept in a humid environment.

the machine looks complete except for a track cover just after the first U turn in the upper right, on the back. most of us make a cover out of plastic, aluminum, or a tongue blade, in my case. vintage pachinko sells a replacement for $25 or an original for $50

it's a nishiijin type B, as we call it. very common and very reliable mechanism.

if the water stains aren't that obvious (flash pictures always make them show up more), I would go $40 for it.

    good luck

i like the first machine better.. well t=not that machine but that style of machine.. it is called a model "A" machine.. it is older then the second Model "B" machine..

i like the Modle "A" cause it will require less balls to play cause it is a recycler machine.. insted of the losing balls droping out the bottom of the machine the losing balls on a Modle "A" are recycled back into the jackpot tray.. I think there a great starting machine..

but to choose betwen thouse two i would take the second as Mudfud stated..

He wants $225 for it! I figured it was kind of high. Think I'll let him sit on it, plus it is about 2 hours away.

Speaking of the Classes of machines, I think I have almost read everything about the Vintage machines on this site. I have seen thepachinkoman's visual history, but can't figure out the "A" "B" "C" classifications.

Maybe I am just not seeing it somewhere.

    Thanks again!
