OKLAHOMA CITY -- Many Oklahoma City residents were shocked Thursday to learn about a new online game that features Timothy McVeigh as its hero.

Oklahoma City Escapade is a game based on the Oklahoma City bombing. The goal of the Internet-based game is to buy bombs, rent a Ryder truck and blow up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.

After learning that the game was online, Eyewitness News 5's Mark Opgrande asked Oklahoma City residents about their reaction to a game that satirizes one of the worst terrorism attacks in American history.

Linda Herndon, who was visiting the Oklahoma City National Memorial on Thursday, said she was sickened by the fact that McVeigh was portrayed as a hero in the game.

"This kind of makes a mockery of the whole thing," Herndon said. "He shouldn't be portrayed as a hero in a game like this. He wasn't a hero, and I wouldn't want to have anything on our Internet that would give this implication to that man and his twisted mind."

Timothy McVeigh was executed in 2001 for his role in the bombing, which left 168 people dead and destroyed the Murrah building.

The Oklahoma City National Memorial foundation said they refuse to issue any response to the game. Eyewitness News 5 withheld the game's Web address for this story to avoid promoting it to the public.


Having been only 4 miles away when this damned bomb went off, I find this whole game concept disgusting!
