You get better air flow if it is going in at the bottom and out at the top. I played around a lot with my server case and found in at the bottom front and side of the case and out on the power supply, back of case and top had the best cooling effort. just my thoughts on cooling.

Heat rises, in at bottom, out at top. If you can have the 'in' so it blows on the hottest thing, it might help.

With a house full of pets, I'm worried about pet hair, and dander being pulled in, too. Maybe if I get some blue filter floss...

I have a bunch of cooling fans that I use to keep my reef tanks cool, so I'll probably implement some of those for the time being.

I don't know if it would work, but you could try your luck at a liquid cooling system. Some of the trendy tech saavy people around me have started putting those types of cooling systems in their servers and computers so you might give it a shot?

I found a 120v 4" muffin fan from Radio Shack I forgot about. I'll stick that in there and see how it goes.

    Ikaria,

Remember heat RISES. The best bet at this configuration would be the lower fan blowing IN air and the top fan blowing air OUT..

Right... That's what I'm planning. I just have to get some filter floss to filter the air being blown into the cabinet.

Fan officially installed! Instead of drilling a hole through the original top piece, I made a new one just in case...

Color is a bit off, but against the wall it shouldn't matter.

    Ikaria,

Could you please tell me what dimensions that piece of wood is? what type and all that?

I am disabled so I cannot measure it myself.

    No problem!

The piece is 19-1/2" x 5-7/8" made from 1/4" plywood. Painted with brown Krylon. The hole is 4-1/2". The wood is slightly thinner than the original on purpose to fit felt pads under the mounting holes to dampen any vibration in the wood.

I used 4 cpu fans in my project. I just spliced them into a 3v power supply.
