    Default Pachinko transformer noob question

Forgive me if this has been answered before. I just got a 120V to 24V downstepping transformer from Imatrix. It has two red wires and two black wires. Which side takes 120V and which side outputs 24V to the pachi machine. I don't want to fry my machine on the first run.
I've attached an image of the transformer.

No volt meter? If yes, set it high, cause if hooked up the other way it'll put out 500 volts (at 1/5th the amps)

I'll let someone else answer then I don't wanna be responsible for an expensive door stop.

    Imatrix doesn't have an answer?

the other has red wires as the 100 volt in..

if i had to guess i would hook it to a volt meter and power to the

    sorry thought i could help

don't take a chance blown up stuff is NO fun.

You really can NOT identify which side is which just by looking or comparing. 9 bucks get you a volt-o-meter at the shack

So just to confirm, to test it:
    - hook up red wires to a 2 prong power cord
    - plug into wall
    - set volt meter to A/C Voltage
    - make sure volt meter can handle at least 500V in case I get it backwards
    - put on rubber kitchen gloves
    - assuming polarity doesn't matter on the volt meter leads?
    - touch leads of voltmeter to the black wires making sure the black wires themselves don't short each other
    - pray I don't get an instant perm?

So the pachi takes 24v A/C and not D/C? The transformer I got says output is 24v A/C. Thanks for any advice.

Thanks for all the advice/info. I emailed Imatrix but have not received a reply yet. I'll take my chances with the volt meter tomorrow. I've always been kinda iffy when dealing with live electricity as I've accidentally shocked myself before.

Use a volt meter if you dont get a response from Imatrix. In practice I have seen that the small guage wires are the input wires (The 110v side.) This is not written in stone but if stranded on a desert island it is how I would go.

    hey guys.

can you check the resistance across each side, and guess that the higher resistance is the 110 side (the greater wire length)?
    ______________________________________________________
Scratch that... It's higher resistance on the 24 vac side. Just checked.

RED is input and BLACK is output on mine. here's a picture (but who know if they follow that convention).

I got it to work. Thanks all. Yes, red wires were for 120V input and black wires were for 24V output. The gauge of the wire between the red and black were the same for this particular transformer in reference to Eddie's comment.
