Default Nishijin B Monkey and Alligator

Hi, this is my first post. I just picked up two Nishijin B machines and with the help of this forum, I'm getting them cleaned up and working..(great forum!!). One of them is the Monkey and Alligator Nishijin machine. I saw a post with someone having problems with the monkey only partially working, however, on this machine, I see the thread that holds the monkey is broken. I'm wondering if anyone has run into this problem and if it's hard to fix.

    thanks

Ok, here are some close ups. While lifting up the monkey from the front, you can see the thread hanging below. The last picture is from the back, with the jackpot mechanism taken off. You can kind of see a roller and the thread, but to get to the actual unit, it looks like major disassembly is involved...which I'm not opposed to, but I'm wondering if anyone is a little more familiar with this before I start taking it apart.

It's kind of hard to see through the red tinted plastic, but it looks like this thread is supposed to attach to the top and bottom of the monkey. I can kind of see a roller/or guide on top, and a tube that guides the thread. I'm assuming there's something to hold it in the "up" position, and it slides down with the weight of a ball, then back up.

    thanks again

Yes, I did see that thread, but it seemed to be more of an intermittent thing with his and mine is definitely a broken string.

I did look more closely and see what needs to done. There is a string that should be attached to the top and bottom of the monkey mechanism. It is guided by "pulley looking" parts at the top and bottom and there is a weight attached to the middle of the string off to the side that should hold the monkey in the "up" position until he catches a ball. The weight of the ball will slide him down until it is released, then the monkey will be pulled back up with the weight.

So with that said, I know I have to get in there to reattach the string to the top, but this is where I have to asked the "experienced". Should I go through the front or back? To take the unit off from the front, it appears there are two screws and four nails that hold it on, but I am concerned with damaging it trying to pry off the nails. To get in through the back, it appears to be major disassembly, but I did see a post that mentioned taking the back plastic piece off in one big assembly. I do not know if that's possible with my unit.

Here's a picture of the back, the area I need to access is in the center with the red tinted plastic over it.

One way or another, we'll get that monkey back up that tree!!!

    thanks again everyone!

Let me first start by saying ‘Welcome to PachiTalk’. It is one of the best places to hang out and even better if you are into pachinko or pachislo machines. The machine you have looks to be in very good condition and was a great find.

I have never owned a ‘monkey’ machine but based on my experience from working on other Nishijin type B machines, you should be able to detach the center area by removing the four nails and the screws that hold it in. Like Moparformances said

If it turns out you do need to go threw the back then make sure you take lots of photos before you start and as you go along dismantling the machine.

I would also try the front first.
When I took my "B" apart, I realised that most of it came off in one piece. A few things had to come off first. Take lots of pictures and then take more pictures even closer. I put small screws in the holes before I took out the staples, that way it was easy to line up when it went back togeather.
I don't know how to give you the link but if you find my "Coke Machine" thread it has some pictures on page 2.
Be careful if you take the whole back off because there are thin plastic parts holding it all togeather. I would hate to hear that something got broke off.

One other thing is to label where all the screws and nails go. There are so many diferent kinds and sizes, and they like to go back in the hole they came out of.

Any special techniques for removing the nails without scratching or breaking things?

Mine came out easy. (except the pins) I used a small screwdriver to pry under it to get it started and then used needlenose pliers (with tape on the jaws to prevent scratching) Take your time! If it doesn't come easily you must try something else.

Success!! (in the removal anyway). Thanks for recommending removal from the front, that saved a lot of time. Now I have to figure out a way to re-attach the string. I'm thinking of using 40lb fishing line, any suggestions? I would like to keep the original weight. I guess I could use slip shots from my tackle box also.

Here's a pic of the back of the unit.

Anything you use will probably be fine, Now that you know how to fix it.

Make sure what you use is flexible enough to go around the pullys easily

I don't think you will give it the use that it would get in a parlor.

look for braided line not twisted line

braided is way stronger and will not strech as much
