Talking Newbie with my first Pachinko

I just got my first Pachinko machine and have become completely hooked. It's a Sanyo and the stamped date is 52 which may or may not mean it's a 1976 model. I've been reading other posts that have been talking about dates. I literally just got the machine a couple days ago so am very new to it, but look forward to learning and restoring. If anyone has any info on my machine or helpful info in general, please let me know. Thanks.
Oh, and I'll work on getting better pics.

    Welcome to PachiTalk

Looks like a Sanyo Comet II, quite a few members have those here, myself included

I am always very interested in the centrepieces of the vintages, and would love to see a close up of the one on yours

Also, this is a really useful post that explains how Vintages work, if you have not already seen it yet

Thanks for the welcomes. I found my machine at a garage sale for $20. My best friend/sister-in-law is Japanese so I knew what it was and grabbed it. I'll take better pictures tonight once I get home from work (late). I've been surfing the net trying to find one with the same design but haven't seen one yet. I've ordered balls, wiring and manuals from Pachinkoman Bill and will have a little time this weekend to play with it.

    Hey Jen,

You might want to let your best friend in on this website! We are always looking for someone that can translate Japanese writing for us.

Welcome to the addiction! I look forward to seeing more from you and you find more and more machines to buy!

Here are some more pictures I took with a real camera, not just my phone. Some close ups of the center and bottom pieces. And I've seen a few people use a staple to unlock the front, will that work for this type of lock? Also regarding translating, I'd be happy to show my friend so she can help out.

Welcome to the site that never closes !! Your 1st pachi is the one that most of us work the hardest to make it look real nice . It doesn't look like much restoration is needed to make it look real nice . The center tulip looks like some areas are missing some blue or teal colored paint .

    Here's a polishing cloth that i found in 2003 .

Miracle Polishing And Cleaning Cloth . The original Miracle Cloth which has proven to out clean and polish any other product.
When things don't go right the 1st time , Step back ,Take a break and come back renewed. RGS

Welcome - really nice looking board there.

On the translation thing, just be careful how you ask. My experience is that most native Japanese speakers who are women, and who don't play or are not familiar with pachinko, have two reactions to being asked to translate pachinko-related items from magazines/websites etc:

    1. They don't recognise any of the special terms and slang grammar that are used, like chukka, kenri, yakumono etc... and
    2. Translating this stuff into English is not only therefore difficult, but often comes out wrong. Not to mention, it can give them a 'kanji warui' type of feeling (ie. they don't feel comfortable discussing yakuza-related paraphenalia, which they associate with lower class gangsters).

Your friend could be TOTALLY different - this is just my 2 cents worth to perhaps tread with caution? There are certainly many Japanese women who love the game, love discussing it, and are as addicted as men can be. But, they are not the majority...

    cheers

    Sorry - forgot to add:

If she *does* want to help, here's a great primer in Japanese for new translators to the cause

    Dechau Pachinko Terms Glossary

This will give her the basics she needs to make sense of everything we might show her, or say, in mangled Japlish.
