I don't use a program. I like to snipe my auctions myself.

    Tulsa,
Do you have four windows open, each with a higher bid,
and just send them off like torpedos 8 seconds till ?

Usually only two windows open. One with my bid set and ready to go and the other refreshing the time count down. I will bid what I'm willing to pay and if someone outbids me. There's always another auction down the road. I've missed on some when I couldn't be here to bid but if I wanted it that badly, I would have been here.

How is that different from just bidding your price in the beginning ?

If you bid at the beginning you risk someone comeing in and bidding till they find your higher limit. The price on the machine is driven up. If you don't bid and Fred and Joe also don't bid till the end the price stays down and the best snipe gets the deal.

So..you have to know current market values- what people are likely to bid

Not really, you just have to know what you're willing to bid. I've watched a lot of auctions just grow and grow out of my price range.

Generally people will bid to even numbers, $150, $165 $170. So if you're willing to pay $150 for one, bid at $156. You'll kill the person coming in at $155. If no one comes in, you'll get it at a price lower than your highest bid anyway.

How bad do you want it? If the idea is to get the machine at any cost, bid early and often and you'll own it. If the idea is to get a steal, set your price and wait till the last possible second to place the bid. 7 seconds is a good snipe time as no one generally will be able to come in on top of you if you managed to set the high price. If you didn't set the high price you'll lose out as you won't have enough time let to up it again. But if you bid the top end of what you're willing to pay, it went too high anyway and won't matter.

That's kinda like eye shooting auctions. If you practice yer eye shooting methods on your machines you should be able to do it on an auction. 8-)

I've sniped on 2 auctions so far and won both. Both machines are listed on importer sites at about $250-$300 apiece, and I got one at $142 and the other for $103 by sniping. I simply figured the bidding was at a reasonable level, considered how much I'm willing to spend on the machine INCLUDING S&H, and put in my bid (minus S&H) within 30 or so seconds of end of auction. The $142 was close to my max ($150), but apparently no one expected the price to jump almost $50 in the last few seconds, so I won. The other....well, I didn't catch it as early, but still had a top bid of something around $40 over what it ended at, so would've probably won just because no one seemed prepared.
