Post Julie - Bumper Repair Help Needed

The bumper in the middle of the pinball table section of my Julie Fever is no longer going up and down. It is only UP now. The machine seems to be functioning normally otherwise.

I checked all of the connectors. I tried removing all of the balls from the machine and then cycling it on and off while tilted forwards and backwards but no joy.

I guess heart surgery is the next option. I thought of trying an MRI but it would probably magnetize the balls to the point they hit the pins and stick to them!

I found the post on removing the back from the pinball table. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Yes, I built a new room to house Julie. I've been watching World War II prisoner-of-war movies to learn how to quietly convert the attic to pachinko parlor mode under my wife's watchful eye. Surely someone here has done that already...

    Panama,
You can access the pinball table from the front of the machine by :
    1. Open the front glass.
    2. Look very carefully at the right hand side of the clear plastic that covers the pinball table opening. You will see a clear tab that you can very gently pry open next to the "o" in Tokio. The whole sheet of plastic will come off giving you access to the pinball table.
    3. Once you have access, try moving the bumper by hand and see if it will move up and down.

At least this is a start to fix your problem. Good Luck!

Thanks for the detailed instructions. When the normal routine wraps up tonight I will take a look at this. I plan to post pictures to accompany the instructions in this thread.

It took about 2 minutes last night to perform the fix and what a difference!

I turned the Julie pachinko machine off and touched something metal to discharge any static electricity.

From the rear of the machine I unplugged the cable from the back of the LCD assembly and removed 2 screws from the metal L bracket supports against the machine on the right side. The two supports on the left side pivot in and out of slots for them so screws are not used.

I removed the LCD screen by pulling the right side out enough for the brackets on the left side to come out of their slots. At this point I had access to the surface of the pinball playing field. A reasonable push on the top of the bumper and it came unstuck moving to the down position.

I pivoted the LCD screen back into place and screwed it in. The plug went back in with a satisfactory click.

It's like a new machine with the bumper spinning, blinking and going up and down. Thanks for the help!
