Default Nishijin Victory Flag in Ball WIndow - Pics

    Hey all,

While I was finishing putting my Nishijin Sophia back together, I noticed a hinged arm that seemed like it would never move on its own. Then I noticed a lever that was attached to it, and the lever to jammed in a crease - as though it was not supposed to be moved.

Well, needless to say, I moved it... When I did, a little flag lowered into the ball window...see the pics below.

I wonder if this is used when a machine is being serviced, or out of order? Cool Little surprise.

    Thanks for looking,

    Matt!

it is on all vintages... it is to show that the upper ball hopper is out of balls... im sure it was used as an out of service as well..

if u can get it working it will save u allot of pain.. i have found when the kids are playing they dont relize that the machine is not paying when balls go in the tulips..

this usualy happens when they are out of balls.. but kids keep shooting.. when the flag is working it will stop balls from entering the shooter and keep them machine from geting jamed up with balls in the back..

    Mopar,

HHmm... My old comet as well as this sophia both stop loading balls when the hopper is empty, however, the comet does not have a flag that appears, and the flag on this sophia doesn't appear either... Perhaps it's disconnected - i'll check...

Not all Pachis have flags that display when the jackpot ball hopper is empty.

My guess is Nishijin (manufacturing leader) started adding them at some point, and other manufacturers thought it was a good idea and followed the lead (while other manufacturers opted not to add the additional complexity to their mechanisims).

Some vintage machines will have them, and others won't.

Below you can see picture of what it should look like. Sorry I only have photos of the mechanism before it was cleaned. If you need a better description of how it interacts with the back or anything let me know.

    chmer,

Thanks for the info... Yes, that's exactly how mine looks. However, the wire is bent up and was tucked into the molding above. I could easily bend it back - however, I don't see how it would be manipulated by the machine alone... Also, I have to clean it, because the joint is quite stiff!

it has been a while for me looking at the back of my vintages so I forget the exact linkage but it is worked by the ramp in the bottom of the reward hopper at the top of the back of the machine.

When the flag it not only means the hopper is empty but it also prevents more balls from moving into the ball shooter. On a machine that I have that was reconditioned here in the states, the metal arm was also intentionally bent up into the frame. I suspect to alleviate the potential problem of hVing to deal with this for the home user.

    Hey, .

I just (99%) finished restoring my Sophia B - so I moved it into the gameroom... After about 15 minutes of bending and twisting the arm of the flag - I got it to interact with the empty ball tray lever - and it works perfectly!

I noticed tonight, however, that I had to attach 2 spheres to the end (near the switch) of the empty ball tray arm to assist it in triggering when the hopper was empty - it was as if there was not enough "spring" in the ramp tp get it to rise when it was empty...

You might want to polish the metal shaft that the flag mechanisim is on . The Vintage Pachinkos didn't need any "Liquid " lube to make them work just make sure the machine is clean and the shafts are highly polished

Miracle Polishing And Cleaning Cloth . The original Miracle Cloth which has proven to out clean and polish any other product.
