Default New balls vs "antique/used" balls for Nishijin model A ?

just wondering if there is a difference in new vs "used/cleaned" balls?

I have been looking to buy 1000 (I was led to believe that this is the right amount for this machine).

-- One of the ebay sellers I was recommended to shows used balls within the ad, but says now that they are new. price delivered is about .05/ball

-- Another popular company that restores machines sells them for about double the price. They say their balls are "antique/original used balls" that are cleaned and polished in walnut shells.

what would be the difference ? am I splitting hairs here or is there something that special about finding original balls. how can I tell?

What should I do -- my 6yr old is chomping at the bit for me to get the balls NOW (lol)

btw ..I am doing a search through the forums threads right now, but I wanted to order these asap

    thank you ! bc3

As long as the balls are clean and rust free, you are OK to use them.

Vintage Pachinko does a great job of cleaning their "used" balls before selling them, but they can be pricey (.06 -.07 each). You can buy them on demand at any time for that price.

If you purchase from goldenstatetraders or stopexpress on ebay, then you will be getting the same quality as Vintage Pachinko offers, but can get them shipped for around .03-.05 cents each depending on the bidding. The more patient you are, the cheaper you can get them. (I once won an auction for 2000 balls for .02 each after shipping!)

I guess it really depends on how urgently you need them.

    Good luck!

How can I tell the difference ???

I've never held a pachinko ball so any pics could help...the only ones Ive seen on ebay have had some kind if engraving, but the seller says the ones he has listed are new..so the pic is not of the ones I would be getting... I do not have a point of reference to go by.

.Please dont think I am trying to make mountains out of mole hills, but I dont want to spend $50 and then have to buy a sling shot to use them with..lol

    thanks!

All Pachinko balls are engraved. I can tell you from personal experience that if you buy from Vintage Pachinko/Pachinkoman, goldenstatetraders or stopexpress, you will be getting what you paid for. They are all reputable sellers.

    Hope this helps!

I don't care what anyone says in their ads, if they come from Japan they are used--like new.

Not all pachinko balls are engraved. I have quite a few that aren't.

Just a quick note about the balls... one vendor on Ebay hawking "Brand new never used" balls has shipping costs at $20 per 500 where other providers are more reasonable at $8+ to ship 500.

And the stock we have for sale now are mixed engraved and smooth. All are authentic pachinko balls from the Japanese parlors, clean, and official size and weight.

I just noticed that blue hotaru has pachinko balls at our auction site, too, if you want to buy local... though I have not purchased yet, rita gets high marks from lots of pachitalkers.

price is 5 cents per ball, plus ship. not bad if you want the balls now, and don't want to mess around with an ebay auction.

good to know that some balls come without engraving. the last machine that I had with non-engraved balls had slightly oversized balls... maybe these were 5/16 ball bearings, and not authentic pachinko balls. they got stuck in some of the nails, but worked fine in the back mechanisms.

I bought 800 of the colored balls (gold, blue, red and green) from epay at about 10cents each and had trouble with then getting stuck in nails. I also had issues with the color rubbing off on the cells so I went over all the balls and picked them all out. Now they live in a cool bottle sitting on a shelf. A spendy bit of pachi art

I still have my bag of new beautiful teal coloured pachinko balls

I have not used them yet in my pachis, I was aware that the colour may come off them,

but they are still great to have and I may find a way to display them properly when my games room is sorted

Speaking of vintage spheres, a recent acquisition came with ~500 of which half were the old non-chromed variety.

Anyone have any issues with the old ones? Need more cleaning?

Sounds like they need more cleaning to me. Although I did have some balls from a machine we had as a kid that were over 35 years old. Even after they went through several different cleaning methods they still had a slightly dull gun metal look to them.
