    Default Finally my first Pachinko!!!

So on CL last night I finally found a nice, still in the box 1974 pachinko for only $25? I can't seem to find the year on it but the guy told me that me bought it in 1975 brand new from a toy store here in the US.

My question is: What year is it from?

I've seen a lot of pics on line other people's machines and most of them have the year clearly printed in the front. Thus far I haven't been able to locate one? I trust what he says but it sure would be nice to know for sure.

    Any ideas?

OMG YES! What a steal for the condition. It doesn't look like there is any cell staining at all. A closer pic of the playfield would be great. Sorry I can't help with the year, but irregardless, you should be all smiles right now!

Wow amazing looking machine.. the way we date them is by the expiratino stickers.. it appers your machine does not have the stickers.. they were removed, lost, or never instaled.. dating might be a little dificult.. i would venture a guess at the early mid 70's.. 72 73 ?? most all machines were used for 12months to 18months befor removed and wither destroyed or shiped to the state..

the guy u bought ir from stated it as new but i would bet it saw use in a parlor first..

    again NICE machine

Wow!! All of your responses are so kind. Yes, I am very proud of my first vintage pachinko purchase. Ehh, the year is no big deal. The guy mentioned that he purchased it in 75. I was born in 74 so I sorta wanted to know...

Many people here are into vintage machines, some more than others... but most of the time, their purchases require hours and hours of meticulous cleaning and reworking the mechanicals. I think that I have never seen a vintage purchased in pristine condition AND at a phenominal price! You said it came in a box. Was it an original box or just a storage box. If original, I'm sure we'd like to see a pic of it... as I don't think anyone has gotten there hands on a vintage in an original box either.

Also, today's machines were rescued from parlors, is it possible that they were once produced for the retail market and became an aftermarket product only when interest waned? I can't imagine a machine coming from a parlor with the box included.

That's just like my first machine, bought mid 70's.

    Congrats and welcome.

I think all the machines were played first, then exported. It has the parlor stickers, so don't think it was brand new.

    Nice find.

What does the outside of the box look like?

Yes I have to agree with it having been in a parlor first. Check out the cigarette burns. I don't think they came from the guy that I bought it from either. He seemed to be very anal...hence keeping the original box.

Again, thanks for the many compliments I am very new to all of this. Looks like I got lucky right off the bat. With some of my past hobbies I usually experience passing up good things in the beginning due to pure ignorance...then thinking back on it later I usually end up kicking myself for not getting something while I had the chance.

    ...your thoughts on the box?

OK... It looks like a regular shipping box. I thought it may have been a printed box that would have garnered a lot of attention in a toy store.

Yes, you definitely got lucky... and if you are anything like the others on this site, you will not stop with one. Only then you will see what a find you have, but don't let that dissuade you from picking up others that may need some attention. That is what you are more than likely to find.

It is a really great looking machine!

Hummm. Thinking about it a bit more, when these were originally manufactured they must have been packed up in some sort of box when they were sent to parlors. Then I'm sure that parlors must have quickly discarded of all the boxes that they came in. I mean why in the world would parlors keep pachinko boxes in a country like Japan where space is so limited. Heck, if I owned a parlor I sure wouldn't be holding on to them.

That was exactly my thought in my earlier post. We have seen horrible pics of huge piles of modern pachinkos being discarded. Just literally tossed out in the streets waiting to be scavenged for some recyclable parts.

If you had a printed box, I would tend to think the machine was brand new. But since it is a shipping box, and you said there are a few burns (very common for parlors) it seems it did come from a parlor and found its way to an aftermarket here, the way they are now. Of course, it was NEW to the man that purchased it.

Did he mention if he had played it a lot or it was just an interesting item he kept around. They must have enjoyed some popularity here back in the seventies because you can spot them in TV shows quite often that are set in that time period.

I sold a lionel train display board from the 50's for the local coin shop.

it was just a piece of 3 foot by 4 foot pressboard with green grass sprayed on it,

it still had the orginal beatup orginal box with lionel and item number printed on it.

the finally ebay price was over $300.00

I got 1/2 of sale price minus ebay and paypal fees

Nicely done! I have spent countless hours trying to clean machines back to that condition...machines that I spent double on what you did.

I know that I've said that "I'm done" other than a Powerflash, but I'd have bought that one too...
I'm not addicted to Pachinkos. I can quit at any time. Did I tell you about the three machines that I have on the way?

    Great find!

But now you have to find one that needs fixed and cleaned.

    That is the fun part.

You now have the trophy, so you need a dirty one now.
