Blimey 2 more new toys, and no these are not Pachis, or Ice Cream Makers either...

These are Metal Detectors!!

A few of you know that I live near the sea, a couple of streets away from what is known as 'the dinosaur coast' and the fastest eroding coastline in Europe

This means that the whole family often get out onto the beach to search for fossils, etc

Also, quite often we can find coins without even having to dig for them, but over the years we have tried a few cheap (toy) metal detectors and not been too impressed by them

Well recently we inherited a Laser Power Max B3 (tesoro) which is supposed to be good on land

But we also knew that we would ideally need one suited to Beach use, as the minerals can cause lots of false readings on 'normal' machines

So we asked advice and managed to locate a White's Surf Master PI a few days ago

A fun hobby, for sure!

Good luck, and don't limit yourself to just the beach area. There's silver and gold (coins and jewelry) out there, too. Think of places people would congregate... perhaps a tree where people might sit and rest as they traveled... let your imagination lead you to the treasure!

I've not had Tesoro, but heard good things about them. The one that I have left from my days in the hobby is a Whites. I think it will probably last longer than I will.

As the tesoro (laser) was inherited from a late family member, we didn't have the user manual with it

So I tracked down the company (in the US) and saw that they had manuals to download on their website

Unfortunately our model isn't listed, I found out that it was made specifically for the UK market and soil conditions

So I sent a little email to their customer support yesterday afternoon and I just got a very nice reply back, saying that if I gave them my mailing address they would send one out to me

Now that's what I call a good company with super customer care

A couple of days ago we took the metal detectors to the beach for a couple of hours to test them out

I wish I had taken my camera to show you some of the 'treasure' we found

pair of scissors
half a car key
a yale house key
part of a key ring
tent pegs
sink grating!!
a few 1p and 2p modern coins
and a foot long rusty Spanner / Wrench


There's a lot of rusty metal, coke cans, tin foil, rubbish on the beach too
and melted aluminium, as a lot of airplanes were shot down over the sea during the war, amazing how much of that there is...

Dont forget to check fairgrounds once the fair has left. There is plenty of Shake (Money and objects that fall from Riders pockets) to be had.

We are starting to get a bit better at finding stuff!!

Spendable money!!

Saturday 5th September, in the first 10 minutes of searching I managed to find £3-21 in coins

that was 3 x £1 coins, 1 x 20p coin and 1 x 1p coin ALL in the same hole!!

1st pic shows how shallow they were lying, must have been lost recently

2nd pic shows the total coins found on that short outing, a lot are rusty and eroded by the sea, but we found a few more spendables

What is great is that both detectors are finding coins, my finds were with the Laser Power Max B3 which isn't really a beach detector...

Well we are talking 'Hornsea Beach'

It can be beautiful sunshine in my garden, but walk 2 streets to the seafront and you get hit by the north easterly winds

Brrrrr!!

Actually it was very cold here Friday and Saturday, it's a lot warmer today...
