    Default Nishijin 'B' Side.Tross Pockets

I am working on a machine restoration for a customer and was intrigued by the "Side.Tross" pockets it has. It's a typical Nishijin Sophia 'B' series machine with an Owl theme on the center pocket (Photo 1)

When you get a ball in the top pocket between the owl's "eyes", the ball will roll down a path either on the left or right side (Photo 4) and trigger a lever (photos 5 & 6) to open or unlock the corrosponding Side.Tross pocket (Photos 2&3). The ball will then continue on to the jackpot payout seesaw. The next time you get a ball in the top pocket, a rocker behind the pocket will route the ball to the opposite Side.Tross pocket and open it in the same manner.

Once a ball enters the open Side.Tross pocket, the ball will trigger another lever that closes the Side.Tross pocket as it travels down the path to the jackpot payour seesaw.

Again, I had never seen anything like this in the past and I thought it was kind of cool, so I thought I would share.

Yep... new to me too! That is cool.

Thanks for information. There are so many undiscovered components that it is great when someone finds one and then shares the workings in such detail.

I thought it was interesting that your Side Tross machine has the exect same ornaments and pockets as the one in my post, but yours is an 'A' series and mine is a 'B' series. Assuming that these machines are massed produced to save overhead costs, do you think it is possible that both of these machines were built around the same time? If so, that would certainly put a big wrinkle in our theories of how to date a machine.

    Comments?
