    eddie. thanks for the links.

do the tamiya acrylics give a good depth when they dry? having a water based paint to deal with would take away the concern of melting plastic, and could be thinned with water.

those brushes are amazing. I figured the modelers had a way. i have seen little soldiers with the whites of the eyes and the pupil painted on there. probably a more steady hand and sharper eye than I have now...

I guess Mudfud will be letting us know the results of his testing real soon.

the models are made of polystyrene, same stuff as packing foam. if using Testors and the thinners for that brand I don't see any trouble with it eating parts from a pachi

What about the spray paint that is made to use on plastic? Spray a puddle onto a paper plate and use the toothpick or paperclip to drip into the recesses. I haven't tried this but it's what I would try since I have the paint already.

We used to get free samples of Microbrush's some times at the hobby store and they worked Soo well for painting small things..they have a little fuzzy end which I found worked better, for me at least, for painting small things like little warhammer figures..I definitely would have carried them if we still sold models at the time!!

    Microbrush

They are disposable and cheap, only about $1.50 or so for 10..

    thanks for the links.

I just ordered a set of acrylic model paints and some microbrushes. I like the idea of staying water based. the microbrush tips can be bent, too, so this will help in getting down into the deep plastic well without painting the sides.

I love pachitalk. I learn so much from you guys.

hey, did you know dentists (applying teeth coatings) and makeup people (applying small designs to eyelashes) use these brushes?

I received the paints and brushes... boy are they MICRO. I can barely see the tips. time for my nerdy jeweler's loupes. also, decided to remove the flaky paint with jeweler's tweezers...

finally have a day for quality time with my pachi's. will post painting pix later tonight.

here's the pix of the center thing.

I used a jeweler's tweezer to chip off the loose paint. vacuumed up the bits.

the microbrush was almost too big in some areas. used the brush (it holds a nice little blob in the fuzzy tip), then a straightened safety pin to get paint into the tiny grooves.

had to do a lot of wiping of the paint off the high parts.

this acrylic is kind of dull when dry. I will apply the clear coat that was in the kit tomorrow. hopefully it will give more depth.

also, I chipped the little bit of red paint out of the checkerboards in the upper corners. there is white underneath, so it looks fine.

    jeff,

FYI, there are 4 sizes and I ordered the smallest. atomic enterprises on ebay has them and testors paints, and they were a quick ship. $1 for 10pack, but 2.50 for shipping. if you're just buying brushes, a different vendor might be cheaper, and there are some sets of 4 sizes for about $10.

when you search for microbrush, ebay asks if you meant microbus...

    I just thought...how would a cat's wisker work as a small brush?

    Great work on the paint.

I haven't forgotten about the vinyl.
