    Mud,

Hah - it does absolutely nothing... I think the owner just saw a hole, and filled it (umm...).

That reminds me, as you can see, the center jackpot ring of my playfield is covered in a clear-ish, green plexiglass - that would look GREAT with a flashing white LED behind it during jackpots...

    This will be fun...

indeed. the ideas just keep flowing. I like the idea of a center light, too. the daiichi's and nishijins had them. and, if you're doing LEDs, you can sneak them in places that would be too small or tight for incandescents (don't have to drill a big hole, and don't have to worry about melting anything)

btw, did you see shock system's thread where he totally stripped down a vintage and was adding LED's and strings of luminescents? we haven't heard from him recently, but he did some amazing work.

    Hey all,

Ok, I had a bit of time (while watching Pink Panter 2 with my Wife) to mess with some of the wiring.

I gutted all of the old wiring, and am starting from scratch. The lever switch for the ball hopper (as I mentioned) works just fine, so I will re-use that.

The leaf switch for the jackpot worked, but the contats were dirty, so the connection was sketchy. So, I took my handy Dremmel tool, and sanded it down a bit to clean the surface, then buffed it to a shine. The leaf switch now works perfectly - it will be reused as well.

So, all I was able to test (as far as lighting goes) last night was the constant power-on LED that will light the shooter/ball window when the machine is powered on.

As you will see in the below pic, I wired (and temporarily mounted) the LED to the back of the playframe door. Tonight, I may move this LED to the main part of the machine, so that there are no wires going onto the playframe hinged door. I will move it so that the same lighting effect is achieved.

    Here's the wiring.

And when closed, and even in normal room lighting, you can see the AWESOME blue glow coming from the ball window; letting you know that the machine is powered on.

Also, you'll notice that the light is focused on the shiny balls waiting in line to be shot - almost like a spotlight on the batter's box!

    Here's the result:

I hope you enjoy - more to come!

    Thanks,

    Matt!

Can you let us know the type of led's you use. I am really liking these lighting effects. I always thought my nishijin was a little dull and needed some more lights.

    Default Finished wiring layout...

    Hey all,

Ok, last night I was able to finish laying out my new wiring. I just now have to route the wires in a clean fashion so it it's as cluttered.

I will post pictures tonight (hopefully), but here's what I did:

    1) Constant Blue LED in the ball/shooter window. This comes on whenever the master power switch for the machine is turned on. This looks awesome, plus it lets you know instantly if the machine has power running to it.

    2) (from looking at the front of the machine) The entire orange "flower" in the upper right of the machine, as well as the entire orange/red "flower" in the upper left of the machine will light up when a Jackpot is hit.

    3) (from looking at the front of the machine) The bottom half only (red portion) of the upper left flower will light, and stay lit, when the hopper is empty.

    4) All Switches, power connections, and wire leads are connected with 'quick-connect' fasteners.

This means that, at any time, any portion of any wire or wires can be removed and reconnected in an instant. This is excellent for cleaning, changing, repairing, etc...

Also, instead of trying to wiring everything together where possible in the wire circuit, every single action set (the jackpot light set, the hopper light set, and the ball window light set) are all wired independently.

This means that each set is individual and goes back to the main power source - nothing is tied into another set.

Once again, this goes back to ease of manipulation, repair, removal, etc.

    Soooo,

Thats' what I have - and it will save a TON of headaches in the future. Needless to say, I can hot swap components out, change lights whenever I want...

As I mentioned, I will post pics later...

    Thanks,

    Matt!

    Hey all,

Ok - I had a few minutes to polish half of the nails... Even if the patina returns, at least the initial dirt and grime is gone!

I used Blue Magic polish and a polishing Dremmel tool attachment on low speed.

Did it really only take a few minutes with the dremel??

you got to find a few minutes more to polish the other half now...

    Yep,

Took about 15 minutes or so...and that was taking my time. Dremmel tools are essential - in everything!!!

    Time to hit the gym,

hey matt. which polishing tip did you use? I have found it frustrating using the dremel most of the time.

    Mud,

I used the 401 Manderal and the small, round felt bit. (the middle one below)

I put a few small washers on the bit before adding the felt tip. That way the tip of the screw didn't come through to scratch anything.

I kept the Dremel on low speed, and it worked magically!

    Later,

    Matt!
